Pediatric Dietitian I

Position Overview The Pediatric Dietitian I (PD I) provides evidence-based nutrition care to patients and families using practice skills which satisfy the needs and concerns of assigned patients. The PD I can formulate and implement individualized nutrition care plans using current medical nutrition therapy (MNT). The PD I contributes to nutrition care decisions that lead to positive outcomes and is an effective educator. The PD I addresses routine problems in the work environment, prioritizes workload, and advocates for the nutritional care needs of the patient/family. This position receives oversight by the Manager of Clinical Nutrition Services and requires the ability to manage daily workload, identify routine problems, and solve issues with advice from others. Position Duties Provides nutrition care to assigned patients/families with general pediatric nutritional conditions and disorders, across developmental stages. Uses critical thinking and problem-solving skills in patient care. Assesses nutritional needs, develops and implements an effective MNT plan, monitors outcomes and follows Phoenix Children’s standards of care and evidence-based practice guidelines. Selects appropriate feeding modality, accurately calculates nutritional needs, and adjusts plans in a timely fashion. Provides patient and family education, tailoring instruction to individual learning styles and promoting behavior change. Documents nutrition care plans and recommendations accurately, adhering to documentation policies and ensuring timely availability for the interdisciplinary care plan. Participates in teaching rounds and supports interdisciplinary decision-making. Serves as a liaison between the health care team and families to accommodate individual needs. Provides nutrition education to the interdisciplinary team and community upon request, and participates in projects that promote health and well-being. Supports quality and performance improvement initiatives and follows hospital policies and safety practices. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested. Position Qualifications Education Bachelor’s Degree and supervised practice experience that meets the requirements for registered dietitian status of the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Experience Experience in a healthcare, preferably hospital, environment providing current MNT to general hospitalized patients, including but not limited to parenteral and enteral formulas, GI disorders, cardiac, diabetes, renal, pulmonary, and weight management/growth concerns. Pediatric experience. Special Skills Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills. Flexibility with scheduled days and hours, and participation in on‑call/weekend rotation. Proficiency in Spanish (preferred). Additional Requirements Eligible to obtain a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (R.D. or R.D.N.) credential recognized by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics prior to the start date.
