50 Harmony Drive, Morgantown, West Virginia 26505 Job Title Dining Services Director (DSD) Job Description The Dining Services Director supervises all aspects of food service for the community, including hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff. The director maintains cleanliness of the kitchen, dining, and storage areas, ensures equipment is clean and in good working order, and maintains knowledge of health laws and regulations. Key responsibilities include directing meal preparation and service to residents, associates, and guests, preparing monthly menus that meet dietary needs, ensuring meals are served on schedule with no more than a 14-hour span between the evening meal and breakfast, providing evening snacks as requested, and maintaining sanitation standards throughout the food service area. Other duties involve ordering raw food and supplies through approved vendors, managing inventory, maintaining budget for food, supplies and labor hours, controlling food portions and monitoring consumption, coordinating a preventative maintenance program for equipment, attending staff meetings, meeting new residents within four days of move‑in, and providing customer service while following confidentiality policies. The director also conducts a monthly food committee meeting with resident representatives, plans marketing functions, sets up in‑service educational training, and may supervise and train other staff members as assigned. Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, dining, and storage areas, ensuring equipment is clean and in good operating condition. Develop and maintain knowledge of policies, procedures, and health laws relevant to the position. Direct meal preparation and service for residents, associates, and guests. Create and follow monthly menus that meet dietary needs and comply with sanitation standards. Ensure meals are served on schedule with no more than a fourteen-hour interval between evening meal and breakfast. Provide an evening snack of nutritional value when desired. Maintain copies of served menus for at least three months. Ensure food service area and equipment exceed sanitation requirements set by federal, state, and local regulations. Order raw food, supplies, and equipment through approved vendors and keep accurate inventory. Maintain quality standards and stay within budget for food, supplies, and labor hours. Understand personnel policies and manage the department accordingly. Control food portions served and observe amounts consumed. Post menus in the kitchen. Maintain a preventative maintenance program for dining services equipment with assistance of the Maintenance Supervisor. Attend required staff meetings and in‑services. Meet and visit all new residents within four days of move‑in. Remain alert to changes in diet orders, resident abilities, and preferences. Provide excellent customer service when interacting with residents, visitors, and staff. Follow confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information. Recognize special dietary needs of residents in Harmony Square and train staff to identify these needs. Ensure food offerings on Harmony Square meet resident needs. Conduct monthly food committee meetings with resident representatives. Plan, organize, assist, and supervise dining services for marketing functions. Set up and conduct in‑service educational training for dining services staff. Supervise and conduct training sessions for other staff members as assigned. Qualifications Must possess a Food Service Manager Certificate and/or meet all regulatory requirements to hold the position of Food Service Manager. Must have a working knowledge of ordering, storing, preparation, and serving in a food service environment, preferably in senior care. Must be a high school graduate. Must have experience in dining services with management/leadership experience. Must be ServSafe Certified. Must possess strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with residents, visitors, staff, and the management team. Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays. Must have good leadership and supervisory skills. Must have knowledge and understanding of nutritional needs and challenges of assisted‑living residents. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, and walk intermittently during the workday. Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis, or at least eight times per shift, with the ability to carry heavy objects up to 20 feet. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi‑task. Must maintain a neat and clean public appearance presentation.
