Full job description Role Summary: Urban Outfitters is seek an Associate Designer to design and execute the Out From Under collection each season, ensuring it aligns with the seasonal theme and overarching aesthetic of the Urban Outfitters brand. Role Responsibilities: Design / Production Assists in interpretating seasonal fashion direction, assortment opportunities, and merchandise trends for area. Actively participates, contributes, and assists Senior Designer in creating seasonal assortment. Tracks, manages and organizes department samples. Manages development and execution of trim packages and completes all technical callouts. Sets up spec sheets for all bodies/styles, prepares development packages and participates in all communication and follow up related to each package in partnership with Design Coordinator. Communicates fit and construction details to Technical Design department. Prepares presentation materials for seasonal benchmark meetings such as Sketch review, Finalization, and Print + Color Day Maintains awareness of trend, shares research and inspiration (blogs, magazines, retail experience, street- style and vintage exploration as it relates to the UO product) Business Acumen Monitors developments, anticipates problems, and initiates solutions in a timely manner to minimize problems or delays. Seeks to understand ways to contribute impact to financial outcomes. Works closely with Design and Buying partners to gain an understanding of financial reports and earnings as they relate to design production. Provides reliable and responsible support to Designer/Senior Designer. Leadership Proactively represents their team and a Design point of view at all relevant meetings while communicating the necessary information to their manager. Collaborates with various departments about target approvals, execution, and outcomes. Receives feedback with a willingness to collaborate on ideas and necessary changes. Supports Designer/Senior Designer throughout design process by anticipating needs and assuming accountability for their contributions in the design process. Exhibits ethics in practice. Teamwork Treat others with respect. Builds and sustains positive collaborative relationships and maintain open and proactive communication with multi level cross-functional partners. Role Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Apparel Design or equivalent experience preferred. Strong understanding of the Urban Outfitters target customer. Ability to respond to business objectives with creative, innovative and cost-effective design. Excellent ability to sketch design ideas accurately and emotionally, strong sense of proportion and can accurately illustrate details. Working knowledge of garment construction, fabric and trims, wash and dye treatments and techniques. Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with partners in Design, Buying, PD, Tech Design, Print/Color + Concept. Excellent hand and computer sketching/ CAD skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop as well as Procreate. Proactive and self-motivated. Organized with a strong ability prioritize multiple deadline driven tasks and flexibility to adapt to a fast paced and frequent changes. Proficient in Microsoft platforms (Excel, Powerpoint & Word) preferred. Possesses mocking, draping, sewing and other technical skills related to garment making.
