The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist position is responsible for performing specialized MRI procedures, ensuring patient safety, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist applies technical expertise and clinical knowledge to produce high-quality diagnostic images. The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist also supports education, mentoring, and operational efficiency within UT MD Anderson. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in MRI imaging techniques, patient care, and safety protocols, with applicable education, relevant clinical experience, and required certifications aligned with MRI practice standards. • Perform MRI procedures and related patient care activities including POCT, IV insertion, patient assessment, and medication administration
• Ensure patient and staff safety by monitoring environments and following MRI safety standards and National Patient Safety Goals
• Screen patients for implanted devices and manage clearance processes, including event reporting and Stop the Line protocols
• Recognize patient distress and initiate emergency response procedures when needed
• Maintain infection control practices and proper contrast media handling using the six rights of medication administration
• Apply age-specific criteria in patient care and identify critical findings requiring immediate radiologist notification
• Maintain cleanliness, stock supplies, and manage imaging room readiness and radioactive material compliance
• Protect patient confidentiality and ensure complete, accurate documentation and patient identification
• Support flexible scheduling needs including shift adjustments, call coverage, and off-site imaging center travel Critical Thinking & Strategic Alignment
• Apply clinical knowledge and critical thinking to ensure imaging meets patient and provider needs
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve clinical questions and improve patient flow
• Optimize scheduling capacity and minimize delays to support on-time patient care
• Execute downtime procedures during system failures and report to leadership
• Utilize communication tools effectively and ensure accurate image transfer to PACS
• Perform SBAR hand-offs and complete shift reports with follow-up as needed
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support patient experience metrics
• Contribute to education, mentoring, and training of staff, students, and clinical partners
• Adhere to accreditation standards, licensure requirements, and continuing education Technical Acumen
• Demonstrate proficiency in MRI protocols, positioning, anatomy recognition, and image optimization
• Operate MR equipment independently and perform quality assurance activities
• Maintain productivity and minimize error rates according to benchmarks
• Report equipment issues and collaborate with engineering and physics teams
• Perform general x-ray procedures when required by patient needs
• Accurately enter clinical and billing data into systems including RIS, Clinic-Station, CARE, and imaging platforms
