FT Assistant Athletic Trainer

Position Summary The Assistant Athletic Trainer is a full‑time, live‑in appointment responsible for providing support to all athletic teams and assisting athletes with injuries and illnesses; reviewing injuries and illnesses, determining appropriate treatment, using medical equipment and supplies, and assisting in monitoring the department budget. Duties and Responsibilities Attend athletic and sporting events, respond promptly to injuries and illnesses, assess conditions, determine appropriate treatment, and perform procedures such as muscle stimulation and ultrasound. Contact medical personnel as necessary. Assist the Athletic Trainer in counseling athletes and staff on treatment plans, rehabilitation programs, return‑to‑practice/competition readiness, and injury prevention. Remain current in athletic training and sports‑medicine best practices, adhere to safety policies, and develop or modify procedures when appropriate. Assist in developing, monitoring, and maintaining the department budget; purchase supplies, negotiate services with insurers, and prepare reports including injury logs and athlete databases. Maintain and schedule routine maintenance of medical and athletic training equipment, ensuring proper working order and adequate inventory. Interact with college personnel, students, vendors, healthcare professionals, and represent the college at events, meetings, conferences, and seminars. Operate college vehicles as required and provide occasional supervision of other staff. Perform additional related duties as assigned. Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, sports medicine, or a related field from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Valid driver’s license. Board of Certification in athletic training. Arizona State Athletic Trainer licensure, or ability to obtain it. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Prior work experience preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of college policies and procedures. Ability to identify and resolve problems while maintaining strict confidentiality. Ability to maintain athletic training equipment and work space. Ability to direct others, including student interns. Ability to work independently amid frequent interruptions. Work Environment Work is primarily performed under general supervision in an office setting. Travel, early morning, evening, and weekend work may be required. Incumbent is required to live in college‑provided campus housing with a meal plan as part of compensation. Physical Requirements The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently, standing, walking, and performing activities such as kneeling, crouching, climbing, and balancing.
