About the Role A nonexempt position responsible for performing a variety of duties depending on whether it is a small clinic, large medical practice, multi‑clinic, or a specialty office. The role involves both clinical and administrative duties, including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. The assistant provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services. What You’ll Be Doing Patient care responsibilities: checking schedules, organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam rooms, assisting with transfers, dressing, specimen collection, preparing for exam, collecting patient history, performing screenings, assisting physicians/nurses with procedures, charting, relaying instructions, answering calls, and providing pertinent information. Clerical responsibilities: sending and receiving patient records, obtaining lab/x‑ray reports, completing forms and requisitions, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics, and managing and updating charts. Environmental responsibilities: setting up instruments and equipment according to protocol, cleaning exam rooms and instruments between visits, maintaining sterilizer records, ordering, sorting, storing supplies, and restocking rooms. Organizational responsibilities: respecting patient rights, responding appropriately to emergency codes, and communicating issues to the immediate supervisor. Clinical medical assisting responsibilities: performing medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping and autoclaving; checking vital signs; preparing for physical examinations; clinical pharmacology; drug administration through injections and other routes; prescription verification; minor surgery assistance including tray set‑up and post‑surgical care; biohazard waste disposal; therapeutic modalities; patient instruction on assistive devices and home care; laboratory procedures (including OSHA guidelines, CLIA‑waived testing, capillary and venipuncture); specimen handling (urine, throat, vaginal, stool, sputum); and electrocardiography including mounting and emergency triage. Other duties as assigned. What We Expect from You High school diploma or GED. Medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution or community college course. Certificate indicating passing grade for a specific specialty, when required (e.g., pediatric medical assistant exam). Minimum one year of recent experience as a medical assistant in a medical facility or documented evidence of externship. Experience with electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary sampling, and injections. Reasoning ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Computer skills and knowledge of information systems. Physical Demands Employees frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk or hear. Work Environment The work is performed in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Travel Travel is primarily local during business hours, with occasional out‑of‑area and overnight travel possible. Salary Salary Range: $20.00 – $29.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be based on experience, education, skills, and work location.
