Family Law Associate Attorney

Full-time

Hughes Law Group

FAMILY LAW ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY

Hughes Law Group | Trinity / New Port Richey, Florida

Most young family lawyers spend their first few years carrying files, not building them. You draft what you're told to draft, you sit second chair on hearings you never argue, and the cases that would actually teach you something go to someone more senior. We built this position to work differently. You will get real files, real courtroom time, and a mentor who has tried the hard version of almost every case you will ever see, so that three years from now you are not just experienced, you are genuinely good at this.

Why Now

Trinity and New Port Richey are among the fastest growing areas in Pasco County, and the case volume here is growing with them. That means an associate who joins now steps into a full docket from day one, not a slow ramp-up waiting for work to arrive.

What You Will Actually Do

You will draft pleadings, discovery, and mandatory disclosures, but you will also take depositions, argue motion calendar, and appear at case management conferences and evidentiary hearings, with the level of independence your experience supports. We handle complex matters, including divorces involving closely held businesses and retirement accounts, contested timesharing and relocation cases, and support and alimony disputes that require real financial analysis. You will be in those cases, not adjacent to them.

Mentorship, Not Supervision

You will work directly alongside Allyson Hughes, a Board Certified Marital and Family Law attorney and a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a credential Allyson earned by passing a national written exam, sitting for an oral exam before AAML examiners, and being vouched for by judges and peers, one of roughly 100 attorneys in Florida to hold it. In practice, that means the feedback you get on your legal theory, your cross, or your closing comes from someone who has been tested at the highest level the state recognizes for this work, and who wants to pass that on to you.

Who We Are Looking For

One to four years of experience is the sweet spot, but what matters more is what you have done with the time you have. If you have stood up in a Florida courtroom on a contested matter, that counts for a lot. If you are earlier in your career and still building that record, we are willing to invest in training the right person, so do not rule yourself out. You should be ready to carry your own hearings with guidance rather than close supervision, and you should want the kind of feedback that makes you sharper, not just the kind that gets a filing out the door on time. Experience with financial affidavits, tax returns, or business valuation issues is a plus, but honestly, a strong writer with good courtroom instincts and a genuine hunger to grow will do just as well.

Compensation and Benefits

● Competitive base salary, set by experience

● Production bonus once your billings exceed three times your salary, with no cap

● A billable hour target of 1,500 hours, giving you room to build skill without burning out

● Monthly insurance stipend

● Matching IRA contribution

● Bar dues, CLE, and section membership covered in full

The position is on site, based out of our growing New Port Richey office.
