Medical Lab Technician

Job Description:Position Purpose:The Medical Laboratory Technician will provide phlebotomy, biological sample processing, and laboratory technician services for clinical research studies involving substance use. The primary functions of this position are to collect blood and other biological samples from research participants. They will be responsible for labeling, processing, and storing biological samples within the laboratory. They will conduct some assays within the laboratory, ship some samples to external laboratories for assays, and transport some samples to local biological repositories for long-term storage. Other responsibilities may include report preparation. This position handles privileged information.The position requires a skilled individual to work directly, in-person, with individuals participating in research studies investigating the relationships between substance use and disease risk.Research protocols involve project oversight by the NIH and other regulatory agencies (DEA, FDA).The position will involve exposure to potentially infectious body fluids, including blood products, and must complete Brown-approved safety training regarding these materials.It’s estimated that the schedule may be 2 days per week at 7.5 hours per week.
