Machine Shop Supervisor
Supervise and direct the activities of machine shop personnel.
Set up and operate special-purpose equipment, conventional lathes and mills, NC machines, and machining centers.
Perform machining of metallic and nonmetallic parts while maintaining required quality standards.
Read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Calculate and set machining controls, including speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut.
Interface with machines using G-code and controllers such as Fanuc, Okuma, or Dynapath.
Train and cross-train machine shop personnel on machining operations and equipment.
Maintain machine loading and resource loading schedules.
Schedule shop work according to job priorities and reevaluate schedules daily.
Plan and schedule second-shift operations and assign overtime as needed.
Coordinate workflow with the company scheduler based on job schedules.
Attend job scheduling meetings and maintain current project status reports.
Participate in pre-job and post-job review processes.
Plan and design fixtures and recommend improvements to production processes.
Work with personnel to maximize efficiency, optimize productivity, and reduce costs.
Maintain tooling supplies and order required tooling for the shop.
Keep machinery in good working order and implement preventative maintenance schedules.
Conduct safety meetings and promote safe work practices.
Monitor employees, equipment, procedures, and overall shop safety.
Interview candidates and make recommendations for hiring.
Conduct employee performance appraisals.
Coach, motivate, and develop employees while building a strong team environment.
Understand employee capabilities and assign work according to skill sets and production requirements.
Work with other departments to improve product performance and reduce costs.
Communicate job status and production priorities to supervisors and managers.
Take an active role in planning and scheduling objectives to meet production deadlines.
Operate machine equipment and troubleshoot machining and production issues.
Recommend and implement changes that improve productivity, quality, and cost efficiency.
Establish clear and challenging departmental and personal performance goals.
Adjust leadership style to effectively manage and develop different employees.
Serve as a positive working example and maintain a professional attitude.
Qualifications and Certifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
10+ years of machining experience required.
Experience setting up and machining large components required.
GeoPath programming experience required.
Strong hands-on experience with conventional and CNC/NC machining equipment.
Ability to operate machine shop equipment.
Experience with G-code and Fanuc, Okuma, or Dynapath controllers.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
Knowledge of machining processes, procedures, tooling, and equipment.
Understanding of quality control processes and ability to recommend process adjustments.
Strong knowledge of machine shop safety procedures and risks.
Ability to perform basic algebra and geometry calculations.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Demonstrated leadership, discipline, and ability to supervise a team.
Ability to train and cross-train employees.
Strong organizational and scheduling skills.
Ability to work effectively with other departments and management.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work hands-on while supervising shop personnel.
$25 - $26 per hour
