Job Summary This is a temporary Float RN position within the Central Staffing Resource Department (CSR) and ECMO. Wage: $55.00/hr base rate, with shift differentials: Evening $5.00/hr, Night $3.00/hr, Weekend $5.00/hr. Responsibilities Provide ongoing ECMO support to all patient populations served at the University of Michigan (neonate, pediatric, adult). Assist in maintaining all ECMO operations under variable conditions, including dramatic upward shifts in ECMO census, unexpected changes in patient acuity, inpatient support of current ECMO patients, full‑time staff facilitation for ECMO initiations, in‑house ECMO transports, and out‑of‑hospital ECMO transports and cannulations. Maintain and monitor sufficiency of ECMO support for patients on ECMO in the Pediatric ICU, Peds Cardio‑Thoracic ICU, Neonatal ICU, Surgical ICU, and Adult Cardiovascular ICU. Assess ECMO circuit integrity and assist in ECMO circuit interventions under the supervision and direction of a full‑time ECMO specialist. Create bubble‑free connections to the ECMO circuit to facilitate IV medications through the circuit. Maintain ECMO support in compliance with physician‑driven parameters. Participate in semi‑annual ECMO simulations. Ensure compliance with regulatory learnings and requirements. Use and document detailed information concisely utilizing MiChart EMR. Maintain a thorough understanding of hemodynamics and dual ECMO physiology. Complete a 2–3 week orientation. Commit to working 24 hours per 4‑week scheduling period to maintain competency with duties and responsibilities. Qualifications Current licensure to practice nursing in the state of Michigan. BLS certification. 3 years of ICU experience at an urban/academic medical center with an ELSO‑member ECMO program. Desired Qualifications BSN preferred. Prior ECMO specialist experience manipulating flow and sweep settings independently. Prior pediatric ECMO experience with pediatric patient populations. ECMO certification through AMSECT or ELSO. Experience with commonly used ECMO circuits such as Cardio‑Help, Centra‑Mag, Vitalflow, Spectrum Medical. Additional Information This temporary position may meet eligibility requirements for health‑care benefits. These positions do not qualify for UMHS benefits and specific terms and conditions of employment are negotiated at the department level. They are not covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U‑M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U‑M Professional Nurse Council union. Work schedule: 12‑hour shifts (day/night). Expected to float to units where competent and qualified. Variable shifts. No weekend requirement, but weekend scheduling possible. Work hours may be cancelled. No guarantee of work at any time. Temporary Float Nurses are required to attend an annual educational Blitz to complete required UM mandatories and competencies (BCLS every 2yrs, Cardiac Arrest, etc.). They are expected to work all shifts requested unless no work is available. Background screening and pre‑employment drug testing will be performed upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third‑party administrator.
