Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead tax compliance and consulting for a diverse portfolio of clients. This hybrid role combines hands-on preparation and review of federal and state tax returns with team leadership and client advisory responsibilities. The Tax Manager will ensure accurate, timely filings, identify tax planning opportunities, manage workflow, and maintain high standards of technical excellence and client service.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage preparation and review of federal and state tax returns for individuals (1040), partnerships (1065), corporations (1120), and other entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current tax laws and regulations.
• Provide technical tax research and guidance on complex issues, tax planning opportunities, and implications for clients across industries.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals; delegate assignments, review workpapers and returns, and provide constructive feedback to improve quality and efficiency.
• Conduct quality control and final review of returns and tax deliverables, ensuring all positions are well-supported and documented.
• Coordinate with clients to gather required information, explain tax positions, and respond to inquiries from owners, CFOs, and other stakeholders.
• Manage tax season workflow and deadlines, prioritize tasks, and liaise with other firm departments (audit, advisory) to deliver integrated services.
• Assist with tax notice responses, audits, and other examinations; work with Enrolled Agents or outside counsel when necessary.
• Support business development activities by participating in client meetings, preparing proposals, and identifying opportunities to expand services.
• Ensure professional standards and firm policies are followed, maintain confidentiality, and stay current on tax law changes and professional guidance.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license is ideal; strong understanding of federal and state tax laws and regulations.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive tax experience, including direct experience preparing and reviewing 1040 (individuals), 1065 (partnerships), and 1120 (corporations) returns.
• Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or managerial role, with ability to coach and develop staff.
• Proven experience performing detailed reviews of tax returns and supporting documentation to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
• Excellent technical research and problem-solving skills, with ability to communicate complex tax concepts clearly to clients and team members.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines in a hybrid work environment.
• Experience preparing tax returns and tax provision calculations; familiarity with tax software and standard office productivity tools.
• Enrolled Agent credential is a plus; prior experience with tax notices, audits, and client-facing advisory engagements preferred.
