Armed Public Safety OfficerThe Armed Public Safety Officer is responsible for providing the highest level of safety and security for the hospital during normal day-to-day operations as well as emergency situations. This role ensures the enforcement of hospital security rules, regulations, and policies in a professional, respectful, low-key manner that aligns with the hospital's mission, values, and commitment to providing exceptional healthcare to the children of the community. The Armed Public Safety Officer works collaboratively with all hospital departments to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, employees, and physicians. This position supports hospital-wide safety, infection prevention, emergency response initiatives, and patient transport responsibilities when needed. The officer must maintain a valid Ohio driver's license, remain insurable under the hospital's insurance carrier, and be capable of safely operating hospital vehicles when required. This position requires successful completion of OPOTA (Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy) or OPOTA Private Security Academy certification within 12 months of hire.Shift: 11:00PM - 7:30AM, rotating weekends and holidays.EducationHigh school diploma or GED requiredCertificationsMust be a minimum of 21 years of ageMust maintain a valid Ohio driver's license (No SR-22)Must meet all eligibility requirements for coverage under the hospital's insurance policyMust be able to obtain OPOTA Private Security Academy certification or Basic Peace Officer certification within 12 months of hireOPOTA certification preferred at time of hireExperiencePrevious law enforcement, military, corrections, hospital security, or armed security experience preferredExperience working in healthcare or behavioral health environments preferredSkills/CompetenciesMust be able to lift and move heavy objects as requiredMust be able to carry a department-issued firearm and successfully qualify with required department standardsStrong communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skillsAbility to work effectively in high-stress and fast-paced environmentsAbility to interact professionally with patients, families, visitors, and staff
