Bar Nuestro is a neighborhood bistro rooted in the rhythms of old-world Europe and the sazón of Latin America — a place where the aperitivo hour lingers, the dining room hums, and every gathering feels like it was meant to happen here. Opening at Navy Yard in summer 2026, we are building a team that leads with warmth, operates with precision, and believes that hospitality is something you feel.

The Role

The Bartender is the face of Bar Nuestro's beverage program — part craftsman, part host, part storyteller. You will build relationships one pour at a time, execute a cocktail and wine program rooted in our European-Latin identity, and set the tone for the bar as a destination in its own right. This role calls for someone who takes real pride in the craft, reads a room instinctively, and treats every guest — whether a first-timer or a regular — like they're the reason the bar exists.

Guest Experience & Service

• Greet and engage guests warmly, creating a genuine, welcoming bar experience from first pour to last
• Recommend cocktails, wine, and spirits with confidence, tailoring suggestions to guest preference and occasion
• Build rapport with regulars and first-time guests alike, turning walk-ins into repeat visits
• Handle guest concerns and service recovery with grace and professionalism
• Work as part of the full restaurant team — supporting servers, running food or drinks, and bussing as needed during peak periods

Beverage Execution

• Prepare all cocktails, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages according to Bar Nuestro recipes and specs with consistency and precision
• Maintain complete knowledge of the cocktail menu, wine list, beer selection, and seasonal offerings, including ingredients and stories behind each
• Set up, maintain, and break down the bar for service, ensuring tools, glassware, and product are stocked and organized
• Monitor stock levels and communicate shortages or 86s to the Manager on Duty in a timely manner
• Uphold all responsible alcohol service policies, including checking ID and monitoring guest consumption

Bar Standards & Sanitation

• Maintain a clean, organized bar throughout service, including surfaces, tools, and glassware
• Follow all food and beverage safety, sanitation, and DC Health Department regulations
• Complete required daily checklists, including temperature logs, FIFO rotation, and cleaning tasks
• Assist with pre-shift and closing duties, including deep cleaning, polishing glassware, and restocking
• Support inventory counts and communicate product needs to bar leadership

Team & Operations Support

• Communicate clearly with barbacks, servers, and kitchen staff to keep service seamless
• Support training of new bartenders and barbacks as needed
• Assist with private events and offsite catering beverage service alongside the Events and culinary teams
• Participate in menu tastings, trainings, and pre-shift meetings
• Take an active interest in the techniques, ingredients, and stories behind Bar Nuestro's menu
• Contribute ideas and feedback during recipe development and seasonal menu changes

• 2+ years of bartending experience in a full-service restaurant or bar; craft cocktail experience strongly preferred
• TIPS or RAMP certification (or willingness to obtain prior to opening)
• Strong product knowledge across cocktails, wine, beer, and spirits
• Excellent communication skills and a natural, engaging presence behind the bar
• Must be 21 years of age or older, per DC alcohol service requirements
• Ability to multitask and stay composed during high-volume, fast-paced service
• A genuine passion for hospitality, craft, and the European-Latin story behind Bar Nuestro's program
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus — not required
• Availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays as service schedules demand
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods behind the bar
