Nursing Clinical Instructor

Pay Range $70 - $75/Hour

The Clinical Instructor is responsible for providing direct clinical instruction and supervision to nursing students in assigned clinical settings. The Clinical Instructor guides students in applying classroom knowledge to patient care, develops clinical judgment and professional skills, evaluates student performance, and ensures that students practice safely and in accordance with institutional, clinical-site, and applicable regulatory requirements.

The Clinical Instructor works collaboratively with the nursing faculty, clinical leadership, and clinical-site personnel to provide a structured and effective clinical learning experience.

• Provide clinical instruction and direct supervision to nursing students in assigned clinical settings.
• Orient students to the clinical environment, patient-care expectations, policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
• Facilitate the application of theoretical knowledge to actual patient-care situations.
• Supervise students while they provide patient care and ensure appropriate levels of supervision based on student competency.
• Demonstrate and reinforce safe, ethical, professional, and evidence-based nursing practices.
• Evaluate students' clinical performance, skills, professionalism, communication, and clinical judgment.
• Provide students with timely and constructive feedback regarding their clinical performance.
• Identify students who require additional guidance, remediation, or support and communicate concerns to the appropriate nursing faculty or clinical leadership.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical attendance and student evaluation records.
• Ensure students meet assigned clinical objectives and required competencies.
• Monitor compliance with clinical-site policies, including infection control, patient confidentiality, safety, and professional conduct.
• Promote patient safety and intervene appropriately when a student's actions may place a patient or others at risk.
• Communicate professionally with nurses, physicians, clinical staff, patients, families, students, and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain appropriate communication with the Associate Dean, Clinical Director, and/or designated faculty regarding student progress and clinical concerns.
• Participate in clinical conferences, post-conferences, and student discussions as assigned.
• Review and follow the course syllabus, clinical objectives, clinical schedules, and institutional requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality of student and patient information in accordance with applicable laws and institutional policies.
• Report student incidents, patient-care concerns, or other significant clinical issues promptly through the appropriate channels.
• Maintain professional knowledge and clinical competency within the instructor's area of practice.
• Participate in faculty meetings, orientation, training, and professional development activities as required.
• Perform other duties related to clinical education as assigned.

The Clinical Instructor is responsible for objectively evaluating student performance based on established clinical learning outcomes and evaluation criteria.

Evaluation responsibilities include:

• Assessing clinical knowledge and skills.
• Evaluating patient-care performance and clinical judgment.
• Monitoring professionalism, communication, accountability, and ethical conduct.
• Documenting student strengths and areas requiring improvement.
• Providing appropriate feedback and opportunities for improvement.
• Completing required clinical evaluations and documentation within established deadlines.

The Clinical Instructor is responsible for maintaining a safe clinical learning environment. The instructor must immediately address unsafe student practices and follow AMG School of Nursing and clinical-site procedures for reporting incidents or concerns.

The Clinical Instructor is expected to maintain professional boundaries and model appropriate nursing conduct at all times.

• Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State, when required for the assigned nursing clinical area.
• Appropriate nursing education and clinical experience consistent with the requirements of the assigned course and applicable New York State requirements.
• Current clinical experience in the assigned nursing specialty.
• Current BLS/CPR certification as required by the institution and/or clinical site.
• Ability to provide effective clinical instruction and student supervision.
• Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, clinical-site personnel, and healthcare professionals.
• Commitment to patient safety, student learning, professional nursing practice, and academic integrity.

• Previous nursing education or clinical teaching experience.
• Graduate degree in Nursing or related field, when applicable to the assigned course.
• Experience supervising nursing students in an academic or healthcare setting.
• Familiarity with nursing education standards, clinical evaluation processes, and competency-based education.

The Clinical Instructor must be able to perform the essential functions required in a clinical healthcare environment, including standing and walking for extended periods, assisting with student supervision, and responding appropriately to patient-care and safety situations.
