Licensed Respiratory Therapist

Job Overview Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) is seeking a Licensed Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team in a dynamic hospital environment. Key Responsibilities Deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based respiratory care to patients across acute, step‑down, emergency, and critical care settings. Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and develop, adjust, and implement personalized care plans. Initiate, manage, and wean patients from invasive and non‑invasive mechanical ventilation. Administer oxygen and aerosolized medications and perform chest physiotherapy and airway clearance techniques. Monitor patients’ respiratory status and obtain and analyze arterial blood gases. Communicate significant changes promptly to the care team and respond rapidly to respiratory‑related emergencies, including rapid response and code situations. Provide skilled airway management and life‑support interventions within scope of practice. Perform pulmonary function testing and bedside spirometry and assist with diagnostic procedures. Ensure all respiratory equipment—ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP devices, nebulizers, and high‑flow oxygen systems—is used safely and maintained to departmental standards. Provide clear, compassionate instruction to patients and families on respiratory conditions, inhaler and device techniques, medication adherence, and strategies to promote lung health. Adhere to strict infection prevention and control protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment and cleaning of respiratory equipment. Qualifications & Competencies Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RRT) designation with active licensure. Experience in acute, step‑down, emergency, and critical care settings. Proficiency with mechanical ventilation, BiPAP/CPAP, high‑flow oxygen therapy, and pulmonary function testing. Demonstrated ability to respond to rapid response and code situations with skillful airway management. Strong communication and teaching skills to instruct patients and families. Commitment to continuing education, competitive competencies, and participation in quality‑improvement initiatives. Schedule & Flexibility On‑site, hospital‑based role requiring flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
