Employee Relations Investigator

The Employee Relations Investigator conducts thorough, unbiased investigations into employee relations concerns and supports a positive, engaged workforce. This role combines hands-on case work with strategic partnership, requiring close collaboration with leaders and cross-functional teams to provide expert guidance on complex employee relations issues and ensure fair, consistent outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently conduct full-cycle, unbiased investigations into employee relations concerns from intake through closure.
  • Plan and execute in-person, web-based, and phone-based witness interviews, ensuring a neutral and professional approach.
  • Analyze information collected from witnesses and evidence to reach timely, well-reasoned conclusions.
  • Assess witness credibility using established investigative best practices and document credibility assessments clearly.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive investigation reports summarizing findings, analysis, and conclusions.
  • Maintain accurate case management and tracking tools, ensuring all investigative steps and outcomes are properly documented.
  • Handle all matters with strict confidentiality and sensitivity, and conduct investigations in an impartial manner.
  • Identify key issues, relevant evidence, and appropriate investigative actions for each case.
  • Partner with other internal teams as needed to ensure appropriate follow-up and resolution of employee concerns.
  • Maintain consistent communication with leaders, partners, and employees to help navigate new or critical situations requiring employee relations expertise.
  • Provide guidance and support to stakeholders on complex, difficult, or emotionally charged issues while remaining objective.
  • Participate in projects and initiatives led by the Employee Relations team to enhance processes, tools, and best practices.

Essential Skills:

  • At least 2+ years of employee relations or investigations experience, with 5+ years preferred.
  • Proven full-cycle investigation experience, including intake, planning, interviewing, analysis, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation cases and how to investigate them effectively.
  • Strong credibility assessment skills for evaluating witness statements and evidence.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to draft clear, concise investigation reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases efficiently in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and statutes that govern employment policies and practices.
  • Thorough understanding and application of workplace investigation best practices and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct neutral fact-finding interviews and maintain confidentiality throughout the process.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to objectively communicate with employees and management on complex, difficult, and emotional issues.
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills, including the ability to foster effective communication during investigations.
  • Strong business acumen, demonstrated through familiarity with internal and external HR principles, concepts, practices, and standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience partnering with cross-functional teams to resolve employee relations concerns.
  • Comfort working with case management and tracking tools for investigations.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly and provide guidance in new or critical situations requiring employee relations expertise.
  • Experience participating in or supporting employee relations projects and process improvements.

Work Environment:

This role is based in Austin, TX (preferred) with flexibility to work from Fremont, CA; Reno, NV; Draper, UT; or Buffalo, NY. The position operates in a professional office environment and involves frequent collaboration with leaders, partners, and employees across multiple locations. Work typically involves managing multiple cases simultaneously and balancing time-sensitive priorities in a fast-paced setting.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Austin, TX.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $47.00 - $55.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
