Summary:

The Environmental Coordinator is responsible to ensure there are no environmentally based regulatory violations at the facility. They shall also serve as the technical advisor to tenants relating to all issues concerning generation, treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous materials and waste, storm water and pollution prevention, asbestos management, lead-based paint management, and sampling and analytical requirements. The Environmental Coordinator must have a working knowledge of all federal, Washington State, and local laws and regulations that pertain to generation, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste. Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite. The Environmental Coordinator is expected to contribute practical knowledge and past work experiences to problem solves issues that arise.

The salary range for this position is $95,000-115,000 per year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)

• Knowledge of all federal, State, and local laws and regulations regarding the generation, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste.
• Working knowledge of special waste, universal wastes, recycled materials, waste minimization.
• Develop and implement written technical plans.
• Sampling and analytical collection and analysis.
• Technical advisor to tenants.
• Supervises and instructs Environmental Technician tasks and projects.
• Provides written and verbal reports to supervisor.
• Follow directions, read and understand common danger placards/labels, and hazardous warning literature including safety plans.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Prior education/work experience in the environmental management field including working in a laboratory or university setting
• Previous employment history is similar field of at least 5 years
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Ability to pass a background check for Federal Agency to obtain security access badging
• United States Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Knowledge of principles and practices of safety management
• Knowledge of pertinent local, state and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and rules

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or similar
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
• Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures

Working Environment:

Most of the work is done indoors at the Western Regional Center located in Seattle, Washington. May be subject to handling of hazardous, bio-hazardous materials and waste. Some work is done outdoors in all weather conditions; must be willing to work in inclement weather. Exposure to noise. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment required for each job duty.

Physical Demands (including but not limited to):

• Frequent sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time.
• Subject to hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste.
• Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing (frequently communicates with field personnel via various modes, i.e. radio; must be able to relay accurate information), and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, kneeling and standing for up to 12 hours.
• Potential of lifting of up to 50 pounds such as equipment and other materials.
