Job Summary:

The DMS (Diagnostic Medical Sonography) department at RRCC is seeking a Cardiac Simulated Patient to provide currently enrolled DMS students to practice cardiac ultrasound scans on the simulated patient during scheduled lab times. Patient models play an important role in helping sonography students develop and refine their ultrasound scanning skills in a supportive educational environment. These sessions are conducted solely to support student learning, and no diagnostic interpretations, medical evaluations, or treatment will be provided.

The Student Patient Model will follow the instructions of the DMS Lab Skills Instructor and/or student sonographer regarding patient positioning during ultrasound examinations. The position requires changing into a patient gown in a private area, as appropriate, to allow scanning of the assigned anatomical region; chest/cardiac regions. At the direction of faculty, the Student Patient Model may simulate a patient's symptoms or medical history to support educational activities. The Student Patient Model is expected to comply with all DMS Laboratory policies, safety procedures, and professional conduct expectations.

This position is reported to Martha Rivero DMS Program Director. The work schedule for this position is Mondays 10a-3:30p, Tuesdays 4-8pm, and Thursdays 2:30-6:30p with additional hours as needed at the Arvada Campus DMS lab 8220. If a student is not available to cover all lab days listed, they may still apply and be considered for the days they are available based on the student's course schedule.

This is a work study only student employee position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while class is in session and up to 28 hours each week during academic breaks or breaks between terms while an RRCC student, depending on class schedule, need, and budget availability. Note, we typically do not hold labs over the breaks. Student employees are enrolled and contribute to a TIAA-CREF account when enrolled in less than six credits.

Required Qualifications:

For work study employment:
1. Must be an RRCC student and have been granted a work study award for the semester the student is seeking employment and maintain eligibility.
2. Must be enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours) and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress for all credit hours.

For student hourly employment:
1. Must be an RRCC student and enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Students currently enrolled in a healthcare or allied health program who are interested in applying to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Programs are encouraged to apply. This position provides an opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to the DMS educational environment, interact with faculty and students, and develop a better understanding of the profession and program expectations.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain a consistent schedule.
• Comfortable serving as a patient model for educational ultrasound examinations.

Advertised Hourly Pay
The hourly pay for this position is $19.37, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA non-exempt position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while class is in session and up to 28 hours each week during academic breaks or breaks between terms while an RRCC student, depending on need and budget availability. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.

Benefits
Medical insurance is offered to instructors and other variable hour employees who have worked, on average, at least 30 hours per week in a 12-month period. RRCC/CCCS uses an initial 12-month measurement period to determine medical benefit eligibility, and a 12-month standard measurement period. Student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours a week when classes are in session, and may work up to 28 hours a week, during academic breaks or breaks between terms at the discretion of the college, and non-classified hourly and temporary staff are limited to 28 hours in a workweek, depending on budget and need. Sick leave is granted in accordance with SB20-205, Sick Leave for Employees, accrued at one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.

Instructors and non-student hourly are required to contribute to Colorado PERA at a fixed percentage of their salary and do not contribute to Social Security.
