Lead Custodian (37.5 Hour)

Introduction The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a full‑time Lead Custodian (PCN 27292) for Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH) Blue Hills Campus in Hartford. This position is full‑time on first shift, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM until 3:00 PM. What We Can Offer You Comprehensive state employee benefits Access the State Employee Benefits Overview page to explore available options Professional growth and development opportunities A commitment to promoting a healthy work/life balance Position Highlights Leads and coordinates daily crew workflow, setting priorities and overseeing task completion Supervises staff by scheduling, assigning, reviewing work, and providing training and guidance Maintains and enforces crew procedures to ensure consistent operations Serves as liaison with other units, agencies, and external officials regarding policies and procedures Performs and supports full custodial duties while ensuring adequate supplies and equipment Examples of Duties Plans crew workflow and determines priorities Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work Establishes and maintains crew procedures Provides staff training and assistance Conducts or assists in conducting performance evaluations Acts as liaison with operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures Ensures supplies and equipment for crew are adequate by reporting shortages to supervisor Performs full range of duties as outlined in Custodian class specification May make recommendations on policies or standards May prepare reports and correspondence Performs related duties as required Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Knowledge of building custodial and/or housekeeping work and related equipment Skills: interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills Ability to operate, care for and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work; utilize computer software; supervisory ability Minimum Qualifications One (1) year of experience in work that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above. Preferred Qualifications Experience operating and maintaining commercial custodial equipment (e.g., auto scrubbers, floor buffers, carpet extractors) Experience with floor care programs, including stripping, waxing, and refinishing floors Experience applying effective cleaning methods, selecting appropriate materials, and adhering to established safety procedures Experience assigning work, monitoring performance, and ensuring quality standards are met Experience coordinating custodial operations in a healthcare setting Medical Examination A comprehensive medical examination, including drug screening, is required following a conditional offer of employment. Special Requirements Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications. Physical Requirements Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties. A physical examination may be required. Working Conditions Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to risk of injury from equipment and/or assaultive and/or abusive patients or clients.
