Position Summary
The Controller is responsible for the overall management of the Company's financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury management, cost accounting, inventory controls, payroll oversight, and compliance. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding company assets, maintaining a strong system of internal controls, and ensuring accurate and timely financial information.
As a key member of the leadership team, the Controller partners with executive management to improve business performance, support strategic decision-making, and drive continuous improvement throughout the organization.
This is not a remote or hybrid position.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Lead all accounting operations, treasury functions, and financial reporting activities in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timely issuance of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain accounting records and internal control systems that support reliable financial reporting.
- Prepare and present financial analyses and management reports for executive leadership.
- Coordinate and manage the annual external audit process and serve as the primary liaison with auditors.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance
- Oversee standard costing, job costing, inventory valuation, and manufacturing variance analysis.
- Analyze labor, material, overhead, and production costs to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain accurate product costing and support pricing decisions through financial analysis.
- Partner with operations leadership to improve manufacturing efficiency and profitability.
- Monitor inventory transactions and ensure proper accounting treatment of manufacturing costs.
Cash, Credit & Working Capital Management
- Safeguard company assets and oversee cash flow planning and management.
- Monitor banking relationships, account reconciliations, and treasury activities.
- Evaluate customer creditworthiness, establish credit limits, and monitor accounts receivable performance.
- Manage working capital to optimize liquidity and operational performance.
- Support financing activities and banking requirements as needed.
Billing, Accounts Payable & Payroll Oversight
- Ensure the timely and accurate processing of customer invoices.
- Oversee accounts payable operations and ensure prompt payment of vendor obligations.
- Supervise payroll administration to ensure accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality.
- Continuously evaluate processes and implement improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Inventory & Fixed Asset Management
- Oversee inventory controls, cycle count programs, and physical inventory processes.
- Ensure the accuracy of inventory records and inventory valuation.
- Manage fixed asset accounting, depreciation schedules, asset tracking, and capital expenditure reporting.
- Develop and monitor controls to safeguard inventory and fixed assets.
- Support inventory reconciliation and analysis activities.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis
- Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting activities.
- Analyze actual results against budgets and forecasts, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop financial models and performance metrics to support business objectives.
- Provide actionable financial insights to assist management in strategic planning and decision-making.
- Monitor key performance indicators and communicate trends to leadership.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, develop, coach, and mentor accounting and finance team members.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback.
- Promote cross-functional communication and strong relationships throughout the organization.
Compliance & Strategic Partnership
- Maintain effective internal controls and ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Partner with executive leadership to support strategic initiatives, growth opportunities, and operational improvements.
- Identify financial and operational risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts across financial and administrative processes.
- Support corporate governance and risk management initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong cost accounting and manufacturing finance experience required.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and audit practices.
- Experience managing inventory accounting, standard costing, and variance analysis.
- Experience with ERP systems; Epicor experience is highly desirable.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with executives, employees, auditors, customers, and business partners.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
- Knowledge of banking, treasury management, cash flow forecasting, and working capital management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Experience leading ERP implementations, upgrades, or optimization projects.
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.

Salary Range: $130,000 - $170,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated manufacturing finance expertise.
