Psychiatric Triage Clinician

The psychiatric triage clinician is responsible for evaluating patients in the emergency department to determine the appropriate level of care. Evaluations are conducted after medical clearance and include a direct assessment of the patient. Engagement with family members or support persons is included when available. Collateral information is obtained as needed to inform disposition planning. For patients requiring inpatient admission, the triage clinician enters the required admission order, and the central team conducts the bed search. Communication with the central team occurs via chat. The clinician communicates the disposition plan to the provider and nurse. All required transfer documentation must be completed, including necessary forms. The psychiatric triage clinician works with a consulting psychiatrist for case review. Discussions regarding diagnosis, safety assessment, and disposition planning are conducted.
