Join us as you are appreciated, developed, and rewarded and play a vital role in DC Health achieving our Strategic Priorities and Values: This position is located in the District of Columbia Department of Health (DC Health), Environmental Health Administration (EHA), Division of Epidemiological Investigation. It is responsible for collecting case investigation data, providing technical assistance to internal and external partners for case reporting, and conducting assigned disease investigations for the purpose of initiating individual intervention and prevention services and monitoring population trends for program planning and implementation. They will work under the supervision of the Supervisory Epidemiologist and are expected to conduct these activities in both steady‑state and outbreak scenarios. Duties and Responsibilities The incumbent serves as an investigator and works under the general supervision of the Supervisory Epidemiologist. They are responsible for contacting patients, providers, laboratories, other health care facilities, and other state/local health departments to receive timely reports of infections, access to clinical records, verify testing, treatment, linkage to care, and other patient information needed for case investigation. Additionally, the incumbent: Develops cooperative relationships with patients, providers, laboratories, health care facilities, and state/local health departments to provide technical assistance, consultation, and guidance on case reporting and investigations. Engages directly with facilities to discuss, recommend, and support implementation of intervention and mitigation strategies. Conducts site visits at laboratories, hospitals, schools, and other settings to promote and improve case reporting and disease mitigation by disseminating information on current reporting regulations, conducting chart abstractions or re‑abstractions, testing/cleaning protocols, and prevention guidelines. Contacts patients to conduct case investigations and provide prevention and intervention messaging. Documents electronic and other records completely, accurately, and timely in accordance with program guidelines, and processes reporting forms and related documents to validate data for surveillance and epidemiologic studies and reports. Qualifications and Education Specialized experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. To be creditable, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the line of progression. Based on the duties and responsibilities of this position, a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required. Two (2) years of experience in disease investigation, disease surveillance, or public health program management is preferred. Licenses and Certifications None required. Working Conditions / Environment The incumbent must be able to carry out official duties in a variety of settings and conditions. Routine work will occur primarily in an office setting, but work in a field setting is expected. Position Designation: This position has been designated as Security Sensitive. Pursuant to section 410 of Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations; in addition to the general suitability screening, individuals applying for or occupying security sensitive positions are subject to the following checks and tests: Criminal background check; Traffic record check (as applicable); Consumer credit check (as applicable); Reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol test; Post-accident or incident drug and alcohol test. Residency Preference: Applicants claiming “Residency Preference” will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
