Position Details Job Title: Patient Care Associate / Patient Care Technician Department: 4A Hours: Full-Time Location: Mercy Hospital $1,500 Sign‑On Bonus for full‑time positions Overview Under the direction of an RN or LPN, the associate assists in the individualized care of patients to achieve the highest level of wellness. The role works cooperatively as part of a team, recognizing the importance of group goals, and performs designated clinical procedures as well as non‑clinical support tasks essential to patient care. Job Duties Opportunity for advancement through the career ladder to Patient Care Technician (PCT) and beyond. Patient Care Associate (PCA) responsibilities: Obtain vital signs and document them into the electronic medical records system. Assist with patient care needs including meals, bathing, toileting, ambulation, mobility, and transport. Clerical support duties as needed. Patient Care Technician (PCT) responsibilities: All PCA duties. Phlebotomy/blood cultures. Enteral feeding. Wound care. IV/Foley removal. Trach care/suctioning. Training The PCA training program is an accredited Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program, providing comprehensive, hands‑on experience. If no previous experience, Mercy will provide a required 175‑hour training program that meets Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. It must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position. BLS required within one month of hire; completion of PCA competencies within three months of hire. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; CNA/CPTC or enrollment in a healthcare career program during high school; or current Mercy employee. Experience: None required. Minimum Physical Requirements: Push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds regularly. Prolonged standing and walking each shift. Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
