EMERGENCY PHYSICIAN

Humboldt County Memorial Hospital

Full-Time Emergency Department Physician

We are seeking a Full-Time Emergency Department Physician to join our dedicated healthcare team. In this role, you will provide high-quality emergency medical care in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment while collaborating with a skilled multidisciplinary team.

The schedule for this position includes rotating 24 to 48-hour shifts on a weekly basis, including rotating holiday coverage. Daily schedule varies according to need/duties. Schedules are subject to change as need.

Incentives are available for qualified candidates.

Evaluates, manages, and coordinates the medical care of patients in the Emergency Department.

Performs the role of hospitalist as needed.

Reports to: ED Medical Director and/or CEO and CNO

Demonstrates competence in the skills (processes, procedures, and equipment) necessary to carry out assigned duties as identified below. Demonstrates competence in recognizing and responding to patients' physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs.

Assist with the management of the shift operation of the Emergency Department

Follows standards of patient care which ensure delivery of quality medical care.

Provides effective liaison communication within the emergency department and other departments and physicians.

Assists in problem resolutions which impact patients, staff, other physicians, and department.

Assists in developing standards of care such as, care order sets, protocols and care paths.

Participates in chart audits and Quality Review.

Participates in committee work to improve patient care or operations of department.

Conducts practice with customer services excellence.

Assists in the education of personnel including nursing staff, EMS staff and others.

Assists the Director where deemed appropriate.

Contributes to patient safety excellence through modeling best practices.

Implements change and growth within the Emergency Department.

Creates an environment which is conductive to the development of self-confidence, personal growth and job satisfaction.

Takes personal accountability for and models behaviors consistent with respectful workplace standards.

Performs the Hospitalist role as needed.

Manages care during a hospital stay.

They diagnose conditions, order tests, prescribe treatments, and monitor progress day-to-day.

Coordinates with other specialists as needed.

Handles admissions and discharges.

Responds to urgent situations.

Assess and treat patients according to condition.

Documents medical care and response to interventions, effectiveness, and complications as appropriate to the nature and severity of the illness or injury.

Applies principles of jurisprudence in matters relating to patient care, employees, hospital policy, state and federal law.

Functions within the parameters of license.

Participates in risk management.

Assists with the establishment of standards of job performance.

Assists in recruiting, retaining, and orienting of new physician personnel.

Remains current in Trauma Center protocols.

Provides educational opportunities/sessions for nursing staff and physicians.

An active member of medical staff that promotes positive medical staff relations and has active participation.

Demonstrates Humboldt County Memorial Hospital (HCMH) key service behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.

Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.

Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Board-certified or Board eligible in Emergency Medicine or in area of specialty practice required.

Possess effective communication skills and able to respond effectively during emergencies or periods of high patient volume. Must display pleasant manner and appearance commensurate with public relations aspect of the job. Able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

A valid current license issued by the state of Iowa for the practice of medicine, valid DEA and Iowa drug certificates.Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is desirable.

Emergency Medicine and/or Family Practice Physician with proven clinical skills. Meets requirements for credentialing by medical staff for ED providers.
