Ready for more than routine shop work? Northern Lights, Inc. is looking for an experienced Technician to join our Alaska team and take on challenging diesel and power-generation work in one of the most unique service environments in the country.

In this role, no two days are exactly the same. You'll diagnose and repair diesel engines, generators, and complex mechanical and electrical systems while working in both the shop and the field. You'll have the opportunity to tackle advanced diagnostics, major repairs and engine overhauls, work directly with customers, and travel to field and remote service locations throughout Alaska.

Position Overview:

The Technician I is an advanced-level technician responsible for independently diagnosing, troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and overhauling diesel engines, generators, and related mechanical and electrical systems.

This position performs complex shop and field-service assignments with minimal supervision and is expected to exercise sound technical judgment when diagnosing equipment failures and determining appropriate repair procedures.

Responsibilities include advanced diagnostics and repair of diesel engines and related systems, including power take-off (PTO) systems, AC and DC electrical systems, instruments and gauges, fuel and air systems, and other associated components.

The Technician I may also provide technical assistance and guidance to less-experienced technicians.

This position requires both shop and field-service work and may require travel to customer sites and remote locations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Independently diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair diesel engines, generators, and related equipment.
• Perform general and complex repairs of engines, generators, components, and supporting systems.
• Perform major engine repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Company procedures.
• Diagnose equipment malfunctions using visual inspections, operational testing, diagnostic equipment, work orders, service information, and other appropriate methods.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical systems, including AC and DC electrical systems, power take-off (PTO) systems, fuel systems, air systems, cooling systems, instruments, gauges, and other related components.
• Read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical instructions, manufacturer specifications, and service bulletins.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and repairs on diesel engines, generators, and related equipment.
• Inspect safety devices, guards, and components and make necessary adjustments or repairs.
• Identify required parts and materials necessary to complete assigned repairs.
• Tag and process warranty parts in accordance with Company procedures.
• Stay current with applicable manufacturer technical bulletins and participate in required technical and safety training.
• Provide technical guidance and assistance to less-experienced technicians with diagnostics, repairs, maintenance assignments, and adjustments.
• Assist in developing the technical skills and knowledge of less-experienced technicians as requested.
• Communicate professionally with customers regarding equipment conditions, service needs, repairs, and other service-related matters.
• Develop and maintain positive customer relationships and provide high-quality customer service.
• Accurately document labor time, work performed, diagnostic findings, parts used, and other required information in Company systems.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and assigned work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
• Travel to customer locations and remote service sites as required. Travel arrangements will be coordinated in accordance with Company procedures.
• Operate Company vehicles as necessary to travel to customer locations and perform field-service responsibilities.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Advanced knowledge of diesel engine maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex equipment problems.
• Ability to independently diagnose and repair diesel engines, generators, and related mechanical and electrical systems with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated experience performing major engine repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls.
• Working knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical system failures.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical instructions, and manufacturer specifications.
• Proficiency in the use of diagnostic equipment, electronic diagnostic systems, repair manuals, and other applicable service tools.
• Ability to exercise sound technical judgment and determine appropriate repair procedures.
• Ability to safely operate service vehicles, test equipment, and other equipment required to perform assigned work.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to communicate technical information effectively to customers, supervisors, and other technicians.
• Ability to provide technical guidance and assistance to less-experienced technicians.
• Ability to work effectively in shop, field, and remote-service environments.
• *Ability and willingness to travel as required, including travel to remote locations.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet Company driving requirements, as driving to customer and field-service locations is an essential function of this position.
• Additional technical skills, certifications, or training may be required based on assigned equipment, work location, or business needs.

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical or vocational training in diesel technology, power generation, automotive technology, or a related field strongly preferred.
• Associate degree in Diesel Technology or a related technical field preferred.
• **Minimum of three to five years of progressively responsible experience** performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of diesel engines, generators, heavy equipment, or comparable systems .
• Demonstrated experience with advanced engine diagnostics and troubleshooting required.
• Experience performing engine rebuilding, major repairs, or overhauls required.
• Demonstrated mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience required.
• Proficiency with computers, email, maintenance software, electronic service information, and applicable diagnostic systems.
• Manufacturer-specific training or certifications preferred.

  Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may work in shop and field-service environments and may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, engines, machinery, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, oils, fuels, and other conditions commonly associated with diesel-service operations.

Field assignments may involve work outdoors and at customer or remote locations in varying weather and temperature conditions, including conditions associated with Alaska field-service operations.

Noise levels may be loud. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn as required by Company policy, applicable regulations, and job-site requirements.

Tool Requirements:

• Employee must maintain a complete set of hand tools appropriate for the duties and skill level of the position and in accordance with Company requirements.
• Personally supplied tools must be maintained in safe and serviceable condition.
