Heavy Equipment Specialist I/II

Join our Public Works & Engineering team as a Heavy Equipment Specialist I/II and be a vital part of maintaining our community's infrastructure! We're seeking skilled individuals with a strong background in operating and maintaining heavy machinery such as bulldozers, excavators, and loaders. In this role, you'll ensure that our equipment runs smoothly and safely, contributing to the success of our public projects. Responsibilities Operate heavy equipment including bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, street sweepers, compactor, picker trucks, concrete breakers, load trucks, and other machinery used in street maintenance, resurfacing, drainage, and asphalt repairs. Safely drive and operate vehicles such as patch trucks, concrete trucks, and graders as required. Inspect, clean, and perform routine maintenance on equipment; identify and report mechanical problems and damage. Perform manual labor associated with street maintenance and construction. Conduct traffic control activities as needed and report safety hazards and traffic problems. Maintain accurate maintenance, sweeping, and patching records. Assist with training and coaching of personnel (Specialist II). Operate and maintain equipment for solid waste collection and brush disposal (Solid Waste Only track). Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; must obtain a TX driver’s license within 90 days of starting if not already held. Valid State of Texas Commercial Driver’s License: Class B for Specialist I, Class A for Specialist II; must be obtained within six months of hire. One year of related experience for Specialist I; three years for Specialist II. Preferred Qualifications Prior supervisory experience. Position Details SI salary: $16.79 - $20.99 per hour. SII salary: $19.02 - $23.78 per hour. Additional Information Attendance is essential; overtime may be required.
