Reports To : Program Coordinator
Purpose: The EXL Program Instructor delivers high-quality expanded learning experiences that support the academic, social-emotional, and developmental growth of K–12 youth. Grounded in BACR’s values of Compassion, Curiosity, Humility, Integrity, and Joy, this role creates safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environments where every student feels valued, respected, and connected.
Program Instructors build meaningful relationships with youth, foster a strong sense of belonging, and ensure equitable access to learning and enrichment opportunities for students of all backgrounds, abilities, identities, and experiences. Instructors use culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches to support student success while collaborating with families, school staff, and colleagues to meet diverse student needs.
Work Location(s): San Rafael City Schools- Bahia Vista, Coleman, San Pedro, Venetia Valley
Benefits:
Pay rate: $24 - $27 an hour, based on regional grant funding and experience
Hours negotiated upon hiring (20 –25 hours per week, depending on location and need)
Employment Type: Part-Time / Non-Exempt
Up to 15 paid holidays per year

Address conflict, bullying, exclusion, and behavioral concerns using culturally responsive, restorative approaches.
Recognize when students need support beyond the program’s capacity and communicate concerns to the coordinator.

Provide homework support and skill-building activities, adapting instruction to meet students’ needs.

Maintain accurate attendance, incident reports, and required documentation.

Notify the coordinator immediately of safety incidents, behavioral concerns, or mandated reporting situations.
Communicate program, team, or student concerns before issues escalate.
Handle sensitive student and family information with discretion and confidentiality.

Represent BACR professionally in appearance, communication, and conduct at program sites.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Associate degree or higher, or 48 college units, or passage of the Instructional Aide exam.
Successful completion of a criminal background check and TB clearance.
Ability to work during after-school hours and commit through the academic school year (hire date through mid-June).
Experience working with K–12 youth in educational, enrichment, or community-based settings.
Ability to build positive relationships with youth from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to complete Mandated Reporter certification and other required trainings.
Ability to independently supervise and engage up to 22 youth.
Basic proficiency with email, Google Drive, and other program management platforms.
Preferred
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field.
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish, English/Chinese, or other languages).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Required
Ability to stand, sit, kneel, and move throughout the program space for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Ability to actively supervise and accompany students during indoor and outdoor activities.
