Resident Director

Full‑time assignment beginning July 1st, 2026. The position includes benefits such as health insurance, an apartment provided for year‑round use, a dining plan for dependents living with the resident director during the time the food service is open, and tuition remission for the first Master’s degree. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• A personal relationship with Christ and a commitment to the lifestyle of the University and its theological tradition and mission is required.
• Knowledge of college age needs and concerns and ability to serve as a Christian role model on campus.
• Basic understanding of the developmental needs of college students and the role of the residence hall environment.
• Organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well with students, direct residence hall programs, and follow through with administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Create a campus climate conducive to intellectual, spiritual, social, and physical development and care for one another.
• Supervise resident assistants and participate in their training and development.
• Counsel residents informally within the limits of training and capability.
• Promote pride for the living unit and encourage respect for rights and privileges of others.
• Serve on university councils as requested.

Duties and Tasks Build relationships Get to know residents and help them feel welcome on campus. Attend evening and weekend hall and school events to be a role model, show interest, and provide supervision when needed. Demonstrate a helpful, supportive, and positive attitude toward the Center for Student Development and the University. Spiritual leadership Maintain a consistent life of Christian service, dedication, church attendance, and witness. Attend chapel services weekly and initiate conversations that encourage spiritual growth and sensitivity. Mentoring role Engage students in conversation about life issues. Maintain confidentiality as appropriate. Be aware of campus policies and procedures as they apply to issues of mental and physical health and respond when needed. Notify the Center for Student Development regarding students in difficulty that would precipitate their going home/withdrawal from school. Staff and student group supervision Assist in the selection, training, and supervision of resident assistants. Attend, assist, and teach during retreats, in‑service programs, staff training, and developmental programs, including pre‑semester and mid‑year leadership retreats. Conduct weekly staff meetings with RAs; meet with RAs bi‑weekly one‑on‑one. Supervision of maintenance and cleanliness Assist in opening and closing of halls/apartments by inspecting all areas and monitoring repairs and cleaning in preparation for the opening of school/semester. Submit work orders at the end of spring semester for repairs that need to be made and track their resolution. Encourage prevention of damage to property and immediately investigate violations to determine responsibility. Incidents and reports Assist the Center for Student Development in responding to disciplinary and other critical situations, taking time with residents involved to discuss and understand the situation fully at the time of occurrence. After an incident is fully addressed, submit an incident report as instructed on the case management program provided. Follow policies in cases of disaster, lockdowns, and other major emergencies. Disciplinary procedures Explain TNU policies and procedures to residents and be familiar with the guidelines that conform to the Manual of the Church of the Nazarene, the Student Handbook, and the housing contract. Support and enforce University and residence hall regulations. Administrative duties Maintain a current list of residents and room assignments, updating the housing programming system (StarRez) and floorplans promptly. Maintain accurate records of hall club account balances, administer funds appropriately, and submit necessary reports on time. Attend RD and one‑on‑one meetings with the associate dean of students for residence life as scheduled, and participate in retreats and workshops when scheduled. Serve in a rotating on‑call capacity over weekends and University breaks. Program coordinator (within Center for Student Development) Serve in an assigned coordinator role; supervision of this assignment may fall to a dean or director outside of residence life. Miscellaneous Agree not to engage in other remunerative employment while under contract in the residence hall; any exceptions must be discussed and cleared with the vice president and dean of student development or a designee.
