Reports To: Director of Administration
Schedule: Monday - Friday, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY

The Finance Team Lead serves under the direction of the Director of Administration to lead the Finance Department while providing the financial planning, analysis, forecasting, and insight that support wise organizational decision-making. This role translates accurate financial data into clear, forward-looking information that helps Hillside leaders understand current financial performance, anticipate future needs, and steward resources faithfully.
Working collaboratively with Finance staff, ministry leaders, and organizational leadership, this role strengthens the financial health of Hillside Fellowship by leading the annual budgeting process, developing financial models and forecasts, establishing effective reporting rhythms, and developing a healthy and effective Finance Team. The Finance Team Lead remains actively engaged in hands-on financial analysis while leading the people, priorities, and processes of the department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Planning + Analysis
- Build and maintain organizational financial models and forecasts, including revenue projections, expense modeling, scenario planning, capital planning, and multi-year outlooks
- Lead the annual budgeting process by coordinating with ministry leaders and departments, developing operating and capital budgets, and preparing recommendations for leadership review
- Perform budget-to-actual and variance analysis, translating results into clear, actionable insight for ministry and organizational leaders
- Monitor financial performance and key indicators, identifying trends, risks, opportunities, and areas requiring additional analysis or attention
- Develop financial scenarios and recommendations that help leadership evaluate organizational priorities, resource needs, and long-term financial implications
Cash Flow + Financial Forecasting
- Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts that support effective planning and organizational decision-making
- Monitor liquidity, reserves, giving trends, and other key financial indicators, communicating meaningful changes or concerns in a timely manner
- Evaluate historical and current financial data to identify patterns and strengthen the accuracy and usefulness of future forecasts
- Partner with the Director of Administration to assess financial implications related to significant organizational decisions, initiatives, or investments
Financial Reporting + Decision Support
- Prepare financial reports, dashboards, presentations, and other tools that translate complex financial information into clear, visual, and actionable narratives
- Establish and maintain consistent financial reporting rhythms that provide leadership with timely and relevant financial insight
- Provide ongoing financial perspective and analysis to the Director of Administration, surfacing trends, risks, and opportunities while presenting thoughtful options for consideration
- Support the Director of Administration in preparing financial materials and analysis for the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Elders as needed
- Partner with ministry leaders to help them understand financial performance, budget implications, and resource stewardship within their areas of responsibility
Department Leadership + Team Development
- Lead the day-to-day work of the Finance Department, serving as the primary finance partner to the Director of Administration
- Establish departmental priorities, coordinate workload, and ensure deadlines and deliverables are met across Finance functions
- Develop, coach, and support Finance team members through clear expectations, regular feedback, accountability, and professional development
- Foster a healthy team culture marked by collaboration, integrity, stewardship, excellence, and continuous improvement
- Delegate responsibilities appropriately while remaining actively engaged in financial planning, analysis, and other work requiring the Finance Team Lead's expertise
- Evaluate department capacity and recommend appropriate changes to roles, responsibilities, or resources as Hillside's financial needs grow and change
Financial Controls + Compliance
- Ensure financial activities and department practices are conducted in accordance with applicable legal, regulatory, ethical, and organizational requirements
- Support the consistent application of Hillside's established financial policies, internal controls, approval processes, and documentation standards
- Partner with the Controller and Director of Administration to support accurate financial reporting, audit readiness, and responsible financial practices
- Identify financial or process risks and recommend improvements that strengthen accountability, accuracy, efficiency, and stewardship
Collaboration + Churchwide Support
- Partner with ministry leaders and organizational departments to support budgeting, forecasting, compensation planning, resource stewardship, and other financial needs
- Build healthy working relationships with leaders across Hillside, providing financial guidance in a clear, collaborative, and service-oriented manner
- Help ministry leaders understand financial information and evaluate decisions through the lens of both ministry priorities and responsible stewardship
- Collaborate with Human Resources and organizational leadership on compensation planning and other initiatives with significant financial implications
- Support broader organizational initiatives and financial planning needs with flexibility, sound judgment, and consistent follow-through
Financial Stewardship + Departmental Oversight
- Provide leadership for the responsible stewardship of Finance Department resources and priorities
- Regularly evaluate department processes, tools, and practices, recommending improvements that strengthen financial clarity, efficiency, and organizational effectiveness
- Support the Director of Administration in developing and maintaining financial practices that align resources with Hillside Fellowship's mission and organizational priorities
- Exercise sound judgment and appropriate discretion when handling confidential financial, compensation, giving, or organizational information
Additional Responsibilities
- This role may include additional responsibilities as needed to support the mission and leadership of Hillside Fellowship, with the scope of ministry growing and adapting as organizational needs change
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Faith + Character
- Demonstrates a maturing relationship with Jesus Christ and embodies the culture and values of Hillside Fellowship (Galatians 5:22-23)
- Must be a member of Hillside Fellowship or willing to pursue membership within six months of hire
- Demonstrates a commitment to Hillside Fellowship's mission, vision, and values
- Models humility, integrity, wisdom, discretion, stewardship, and a servant-hearted approach to leadership
- Demonstrates a high level of trustworthiness and sound judgment when handling confidential financial and organizational information
Education + Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of five years of experience in financial planning and analysis (FP&A), corporate finance, budgeting, or a related strategic finance function required
- Demonstrated experience building financial models, forecasts, scenario analyses, and decision-support tools required
- Minimum of two years of supervisory or team leadership experience required
- Experience presenting financial information, analysis, and recommendations to executive leadership or senior stakeholders required
- Experience in a nonprofit or church environment preferred but not required; candidates with strong FP&A experience and the ability to learn nonprofit accounting principles are encouraged

- Exercises sound judgment, discretion, integrity, and consistent follow-through when handling sensitive financial information
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of fundamental accounting principles; deep nonprofit accounting expertise is not required
- Demonstrates proficiency with budgeting and planning platforms, financial reporting and visualization tools, Microsoft 365, Google, and related financial software; experience with Sage Intacct, Power BI, Martus, or comparable systems preferred
