Washington Veterans Home – Licensed Practical Nurse 2 (On-Call) Join the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Port Orchard, Washington. In this on‑call role, you will provide resident‑centered, hands‑on nursing care to veterans at the Washington Veterans Home. Position Summary The LPN will ensure the safety and health of residents, administer medications and treatments, help with activities of daily living, and collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to maintain the highest quality of care. Key Responsibilities Prepare, carry out, evaluate, and revise treatment plans for individual residents based on physician and nursing recommendations. Administer medications, monitor resident condition (including skin assessments), and promote resident participation in recreational activities. Perform suctioning, oxygen and catheterization, irrigation, IV solutions, colostomy and tracheostomy care; maintain gastric feeding tubes and pumps. Process physician orders and assist with routine rehabilitative procedures. Qualifications – Required Current Washington State LPN license or an unencumbered multistate LPN license. Proficiency in English, including reading, writing, speaking. Data entry skills; maintain confidentiality; provide a positive living environment for residents, support psychosocial needs, follow directions, and document changes in patient condition. Agency required competencies: a willingness to learn and grow; a desire to meet the needs of others. Qualifications – Preferred Washington State LPN license (preferred over multistate). One year of experience as an LPN or experience in long‑term care. Knowledge of nursing care practices, hygiene, recordkeeping, infection control, and patient rights. Experience in developing and evaluating care plans. Special Requirements Pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two years per WDVA Policy 615.000. Annual Tuberculin Screening per DVA policy 670.000. Meet medical requirements for respirator use, gloves, gowns, and eye protection per Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Lift up to 60 lbs and reach at least 36"; push or pull items; stand, sit, and bend unrestricted throughout the workday. Maintain a valid Washington LPN license. Be reliable, attend regularly, and complete mandatory training and orientation. Adhere to all WDVA policies, collective bargaining agreements, and sign the confidentiality statement. Possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license for positions requiring travel. Have work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship.
