Patient Care Tech (PCT) Academy BJC is offering a Patient Care Tech (PCT) Academy! This is a paid 6-week accelerated training program which combines classroom instruction, hands-on skill labs and on-the-job training in a clinical practice. The training satisfies the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP). Training will begin September 21st, 2026! Weeks 1-3: M-F: 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Weeks 4-6: (3) 12-hour clinical shift 36 Hours Per Week after program completion Nights 7:00 pm-7:30 am Location: Barnes Jewish Hospital PLEASE NOTE: CURRENT BJC EMPLOYEES MUST BE IN CURRENT POSITION FOR 3 MONTHS TO BE ELIGIBLE Program Highlights: Individuals selected for the program will be employed as PCTs during training. The Leukemia/Lymphoma Unit (6900) provides care to patients who are hospitalized for Chemotherapy, pain management, symptom management related to chemotherapy and support for immunosuppression and/or neutropenia. This 34 bed unit consists of private rooms with eight hepa filtered rooms. The care is moderate to high acuity providing care with a high complexity of interventions which includes Leukemia care, Autologous Stem Cell transplants, Donor cellular infusions, post allogeneic complications, Graft vs. Host disease and a focus on Clinical trials. The multidisciplinary group of care providers includes Bone Marrow transplant physicians, oncology nurses, Case managers, coordinators, social workers, spiritual care, pharmacy and psycho-social support. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition. Responsibilities Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested. Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse. Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary. Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
