12 Month/Full year Position (Non-Union)

Position Purpose :

The Director is responsible for the supervision coordination implementation and evaluation of all Career and Technical Education Programs. The position ensures that the curriculum teaching learning and assessments meet Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) guidelines as well as industry standards. This position is responsible for maintaining and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control and performing all other related duties as directed and required by the Principal or Superintendent-Director.

Essential Functions :

  1. Responsible for the supervision coordination implementation and evaluation of all Career and Technical Programs and activities including the freshman exploratory program.
  2. Develops and reviews curriculum instruction and assessment of student learning and provides leadership by determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the Districts Strategic Plan.
  3. Works with others to implement monitor and evaluate new and innovative curriculum programs practices and concepts.
  4. Develops clear and thorough reporting procedures for all Career and Technical Programs.
  5. Works with the Director of Academic Programs and academic teachers to develop and implement integration plans that enhance applied learning for students.
  6. Demonstrates the ability to build strong professional relationships foster collaborative leadership structures and maintain a visible and positive presence within the school community.
  7. Provides oversight and supervision of the Cooperative Education Program and Co-op Coordinator.
  8. Provides recommendations for the Principal and Superintendent regarding professional development needs for the staff and administration.
  9. Maintains the organization of the Career and Technical Programs to ensure consistency with the Chapter 74 standards and innovative learning approaches.
  10. Promotes equitable access student engagement and high-quality learning experiences across all Career and Technical Education programs.
  11. Evaluates the performance of all Career and Technical Education faculty and staff the educational process the organization of subject matter productivity work standards safety and the student activities within each program.
  12. Works collaboratively with the District Leadership Team to ensure effective cross-curriculum functioning between academic career and technical education and special education programming.
  13. Demonstrates strong communication skills and the ability to effectively engage staff students families industry partners and community stakeholders.
  14. Uses student achievement placement credential attainment exploratory and program performance data to drive continuous improvement and inform strategic decision-making.
  15. Analyzes annual achievement data to identify areas in need of continuous focus as well as those in need of improvement.
  16. Conducts regular Learning Walks with other members of the school staff to assess teaching and learning.
  17. Establishes effective team processes that include meeting schedules protocols and procedures in order to document progress and establish goals.
  18. Supports the alignment of Career and Technical Education programming with evolving workforce needs industry trends credential attainment opportunities and postsecondary pathways.
  19. Oversees lesson plans submitted by teachers to their supervisors.
  20. Provides leadership direction and oversight of all state and district CVTE testing programs.
  21. Leads the implementation of district strategic initiatives within Career and Technical Education programs ensuring alignment between district priorities instructional practice and program outcomes.
  22. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Principal or the Superintendent/Director.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications

Education Training and Experience:

  1. Masters Degree with five (5) years of teaching/administrative experience.
  2. Holds appropriate Massachusetts DESE licensure related to Career Vocational Technical Education Administration.
  3. Work experience in curriculum development implementation and review required.
  4. Trade experience and competency required.

Knowledge Ability and Skill :

Knowledge: Work experience with curriculum instruction and assessment as well as trade competency identification. Working knowledge of school administration processes basic knowledge of the functions of municipal government basic understanding of the interaction between local government state government and federal government working knowledge of business administration best practices and applicable local state and federal laws.

Ability: Possesses a comprehensive awareness and understanding of Professional Learning Communities (PLC). Demonstrated success in data analysis and the effective use of the DESE Data Warehouse.

Ability to establish program objectives that provide for continual professional growth and improvement. Remains professionally current through readings visitations conference attendance university programs and memberships in professional organizations. Remains up-to-date with current trends in education through participation in workshops and conferences journals and magazines and communications with individuals through a professional network.

Ability to plan organize and collaborate with others; ability to analyze create and present reports presentations and data; Ability to communicate effectively establish and maintain effective working relationships with all school employees students teachers parents and vendors; ability to recognize school-wide priorities and work cooperatively to support accomplishments; prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with interruptions occasionally under time constraints.

Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated excellent written verbal and presentation skills. Self-starter. Willing and able to perform assigned duties in a manner that is sensitive to different personalities respectful of the role and authority of school leaders sensitive to community dynamics. Innovative thinker. Culturally competent.

The individual assigned to this position is frequently required to sit communicate and hear; occasionally required to walk; must be able to handle or feel objects tools or controls and reach

with hands and arms; must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds; vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges are needed; requires the ability to operate a keyboard and calculator at an efficient speed.

Supervision :

Supervision Received: Works under the supervision and direction of the Principal.

Supervision Given: Supervises and evaluates all Career and Technical Education Departments including all Academy Administrators teachers and staff.


Job Environment :

  • Duties are performed under typical office/school conditions; the environment is moderately noisy.
  • Interacts effectively with other school staff teachers students parents and vendors.
  • Has access to school-related confidential and/or sensitive information including student records and financial records the disclosure of which would cause a significant breach of trust and seriously damage the reputation of the school.
  • Errors in judgment could result in hardship to the students and the school lower standards of service to the community create monetary loss or legal repercussions as well as result in possible negative public relations.
