Certified Pharmacy Technician

DEPARTMENT: PHARMACYPOSITION TITLE: CERTIFIED PHARMACY TECHNICIANRESPONSIBLE TO: PHARMACIST (S)EXPOSURE LEVEL: CATEGORY IIIGRADE: 15EXEMPTION STATUS: NON-EXEMPT_______________________________________________________________________SUMMARY:Under direct supervision, fills routine dosage orders and prepackaged pharmaceuticals.Counts, packages, and labels unit doses for inspection by pharmacist and fills routineorders for non-prescription pharmaceuticals. Assists pharmacist in the dispensing ofprescriptions and performs a range of staff support functions.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Pharmacy ResponsibilitiesEnters Admissions, Discharges, and Transfers (ADT’s) into computer system forproper medication order processing.Processes medication orders/prescriptions including refill requestsCompletes adjudication/reconciliation of claims associated with prescriptions,including insurance verification, prior authorizations, and enters charges to patientaccounts.Refers insurance rejections regarding therapeutic and clinical decisions to apharmacistPackages and labels medication into approved packaging for inspection andapproval by the pharmacist according to departmental Quality Control Standards.Checks refrigerator for stability and accurate labeling of all refrigeratedmedications.Picks up and delivers pharmacy documents and pharmaceuticals to/from variousunits.Maintains appropriate inventory levels of drugs and pharmaceutical supplies inthe Pharmacy department, resident care areas, and emergency kit.Processes drug recalls when required in accordance with departmental policy andprocedure.Assists customers on the phone and at the pharmacy counter for orders and refills.Performs a range of routine administrative tasks for the pharmacy when required.Demonstrates proficiency with software system and other technology utilizedAssists the pharmacist in all aspects of medication distributionUnderstand and comply with all state/federal laws and regulationsUnderstand and comply with all policies and procedures for the distribution ofmedicationsESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: SafetyObeys safety rules of St. John’s UnitedIdentifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazardsAttends mandatory safety in-servicesUtilizes proper body mechanics when lifting stock.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Mission/Customer ServiceSupports the growth and actively engages in the Eden Alternative philosophy,including a work environment with plants and animals.Follows the St. John’s Guidelines for Customer Service*Let the Mission be your guide*Make eye contact and smile*Greet & welcome each and every person*Seek out personal contact*Provide immediate service-listen & act*Use appropriate body language at all times*Be gracious to each & every personESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Employee ResponsibilitiesSupports the growth and actively engages in Eden Alternative tasksFollows policy and procedures on annual TB testing.Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations.Attends all mandatory in-servicesPerforms other duties as assigned by the Pharmacist and/or supervisorWorks under the general supervision of the PharmacistCompletes required continued education per Montana Board of PharmacyMaintains license per Montana Board of Pharmacy regulationsSuccessfully completes orientation and pharmacy departmental trainingrequirementsSuccessfully completes all assigned educations and competenciesMaintain and make readily available required continuing education assessmentsupon inspection by the Montana Board of PharmacyREQUIREMENTS:Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED required. Must be at least 18years old. Must have completed the approved national technician certification programand be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with Montana State Board of Pharmacy.Must have pharmacy experience or in accordance with Montana State Board of PharmacyRegulations. Be in good standing with the Office of Inspector General.Knowledge, skills, and abilities required: Ability to understand written and verbal communication. Ability to work independently. Knowledge of Medical Terminology. Skill in observation. Ability to interact effectively and professionally with residents, familymembers, medical personnel, and coworkers. Ability to sort, check, count and verify numbers. Clerical, word processing, and other general computer skills. Ability to understand pharmacy orders. Ability to respond to residents needs in a timely and professional manner,recognizing the resident’s rights. Ability to understand and follow safety policies and procedures.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires moderate physical work, including lifting up to 25 pounds on aregular basis, and up to 30 pounds occasionally, bending, standing, andreaching.WORKING CONDITIONS: Work involves minimal exposure to hazards, bloodborne pathogens, orphysical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
