Technology Support Specialist
Seeking person able to schedule and perform preventive maintenance tasks, troubleshoot problems with computer systems, peripheral equipment and software, and maintain the local area networks. Will provide both hardware and software support. Requires Associates degree or equivalent experience in Computer Networking.
Position Title: Technology Support Specialist FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Director of Technology Days: 260
To work in partnership with the Director of Technology to schedule and perform preventative maintenance tasks, troubleshoot problems with computer systems and peripheral equipment. To coordinate and maintain the local area networks and provide assistance to keep and/or expand the networks of the buildings. Needs to be able assist in providing an efficient and productive technology based learning environment in the BCSD in an effective and efficient manner. Must be able to provide BCSD with support for their instructional and administrative computers in so far as operation and maintenance of hardware and software.
Requires the following (or equivalent)
- 2-year degree or equivalent experience in Computer/Network Engineering, Information Technology
- A+ or Network+ certificate or working knowledge of Windows Networking, AppleTalk, and TCP/IP
- Knowledge of Apple, Windows, and PC operating systems
- Knowledge of Cat-5 cabling, termination, and network design
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Technical Certifications such as A+ or Network + or other endorsement preferred.
- Experience in working with instructional and administrative technology
- Ability to train/instruct a variety of individuals
- Strong communication and organizational skills including time management ability
- Desktop troubleshooting skills
- Ability to make presentations. Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to produce results.
To work in partnership with the Director of Technology and other Technology Support Specialists, to schedule and perform preventative maintenance tasks
Troubleshoot problems with computer systems, peripheral equipment and software; coordinate, and maintain the local area networks and provide assistance to keep and/or expand the networks of the buildings.
Provide support for operation and maintenance of all instructional and administrative computers and software in an effective and efficient manner.
Works to improve upon our existing inventory and capital equipment systems to establish and maintain an accurate and up to date inventory of computers, site licenses, and related equipment
Must be able to work independently and cooperatively supporting the vision of the Technology Department.
Establishes effective communication with administration and staff concerning technology issues that arise as a result of the operation of the schools
Participates, as required, in providing technology for meetings, administration, staff and students.
Provides technical training as approved by the Director of Technology in fundamental repairs and computer operations to Tech Coaches and other individuals so that we minimize external service calls.
Establishes, publishes, and maintain procedures for data security and privacy.
Responsible for any other duties not delineated within this description as assigned.
Work is primarily performed in an office or school setting. Occasionally exposed to dust, noise, odors and other irritants.
Stress associated with work pace and pressure. Will be on-call via a pager. Work involves irregular hours and days.
Travel required. Exposed to hazards of the road when driving.
Continuous speaking, hearing, and visual effort. Frequent walking, sitting, and standing. Occasional reaching, kneeling, transporting and lifting up to 100 lbs. Close mental and visual attention. Fine motor skills necessary. Work involves repetitive and varied tasks.
