The Labor & Employment Attorney is a leadership role within the in-house legal department -- the primary legal advisor to Human Resources and operational leadership on the full spectrum of employment matters. This is sophisticated, high-impact in-house L&E work in an organization that is growing quickly and takes its employment practices seriously. WHAT YOU'LL DO Serve as primary in-house counsel on labor and employment matters across all Swickard markets -- advising on hiring, terminations, leaves, accommodations, workers' compensation, wage and hour compliance, and employee relations Advise Human Resources leadership and General Managers on employment law compliance across multiple jurisdictions, with particular emphasis on California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii, and Nevada Draft, review, and update employment policies, offer letters, separation agreements, arbitration agreements, and employee-facing documentation Manage employment-related disputes and litigation -- including government agency charges (EEOC, state labor commissioners), federal/state court litigation, alternative dispute resolution, trial/witness preparation, document production/eDiscovery, and settlement negotiations Partner with Human Resources on investigations -- providing legal guidance on complex employee relations matters, workplace investigations, and disciplinary decisions while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and internal standards Monitor changes in federal, state, and local employment law across all operating jurisdictions -- updating the organization proactively on compliance requirements Support collective bargaining and union-related matters as applicable Advise on leave administration -- including FMLA, CFRA, state-specific leave laws, OWBPA, WARN, and ADA/FEHA reasonable accommodation processes Provide training to Human Resources, operations, and management teams on employment law topics and Swickard's policies WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar admission -- required; California bar license required or strongly preferred 3+ years of labor and employment law experience from an in-house legal department, law firm, or a combination -- required Experience advising Human Resources and operations leadership on day-to-day employment matters in a fast-paced, multi-location environment -- required Multi-state employment law experience a significant advantage -- Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii, and Nevada employment law familiarity highly valued Strong working knowledge of federal and California employment law -- wage and hour, PAGA, FEHA, CFRA, and California-specific compliance requirements Strong written and verbal communication skills -- able to translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance for non-lawyers High integrity, sound judgment, and a practical, solutions-oriented approach to legal risk Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to think strategically and function effectively in a lean, high-growth in-house environment WHAT WE OFFER Competitive salary -- commensurate with experience Medical, dental, and vision insurance Life insurance and supplemental coverage options Paid time off and paid holidays A leadership role within a growing in-house legal team with direct access to senior leadership and meaningful influence over employment policy and practice across the organization Employee vehicle purchase and service discounts WHY SWICKARD AUTO GROUP -- LEGAL & SHARED SERVICES Primary in-house L&E counsel at a nearly 3,000-employee, 40+ rooftop organization operating across six states -- the scope, complexity, and influence of this role are real from day one California-heavy, multi-state employment law practice in an in-house environment -- PAGA, wage and hour, FEHA, agency charges, investigations, and compliance work across jurisdictions that genuinely challenge and develop your expertise Direct advisory relationship with HR leadership and General Managers -- your guidance shapes the people decisions and employment practices of a high-growth organization Swickard is one of the fastest-growing dealer groups in the country -- ranked Top 5 in North America for reputation in the automotive industry Our HEART values -- Honor, Engage, Anticipate, Respond, Thank -- define the culture you'll be advising on and helping to protect If you're an experienced L&E attorney ready to serve as primary in-house counsel for a high-growth, multi-state employer -- where your advice is heard, your expertise is valued, and the work is genuinely substantive -- we'd like to meet you. #J-18808-Ljbffr Swickard Shared Services
