Part‑Time Instructor – National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers (NACPB) Certification Program The Continuing Education & Workforce Development Department seeks a part‑time instructor for the National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers (NACPB) certification program. The instructor will teach adult learners, career changers, entrepreneurs, and job seekers through a blend of in‑person sessions and on‑demand online modules, facilitate learning, monitor progress, and prepare students to pass the official NACPB Bookkeeper Certification Exam. Responsibilities Provide NACPB instruction to students using the established curriculum provided by UCNJ Union College. Teach material strictly from the approved NACPB curriculum, following predefined course outlines and delivering a clear, comprehensive syllabus focused on standard bookkeeping theories and regulatory compliance. Conduct lectures and practical training aligned with recording transactions, analyzing ledgers, and passing the official NACPB Bookkeeper Certification Exam. Deliver quality, technically relevant instruction, assessment, and feedback in both lecture and laboratory settings, using real‑world financial scenarios, practice problems, and workbook exercises. Instruct or co‑instruct courses for non‑credit programs in lecture, hybrid, and fully online formats, teaching remote live sessions and supporting asynchronous on‑demand modules. Monitor student performance on quizzes and pre‑assessment modules, motivate active participation, and provide constructive feedback to meet course standards and accounting fluency objectives. Guide students through core financial workflows, moving from manual T‑account analysis to complex payroll tax calculations, year‑end adjustments, and financial statement closings. Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an advanced certification from a four‑year college or university in the relevant industry/discipline. NACPB Bookkeeper Certification preferred. Experience At least three (3) years of formal teaching experience, preferably instructing adult learners in vocational, business, or non‑credit continuing education environments. At least five (5) years of practical, hands‑on experience in public bookkeeping, general ledger accounting, payroll management, or financial administration roles. Advanced, demonstrable technical proficiency in the mechanics of a full accounting cycle, internal controls, and spreadsheet software applications. Proven track record in adult education, workforce development, corporate training, or vocational instruction. Official, active NACPB Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) credential or a higher‑level financial certification (e.g., licensed Certified Public Accountant – CPA) is highly preferred. Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to translate abstract ledger entries, tax schedules, and accrual principles into clear, actionable lessons. Deep conceptual understanding that the instructional mandate is explicitly focused on core bookkeeping principles, mathematical data reconciliation, and structural compliance required to pass the exam. Practical familiarity with managing course shells within Learning Management Systems (specifically Canvas) and coordinating student training activities inside digital workspace environments. Competencies and Skills Required Skill in delivering complex technical material strictly according to predefined course outlines, institutional syllabi, and mandatory certification topics. Curious educator utilizing innovative educational methodologies with the ability to quickly master new program curricula and digital learning management platforms. Strong interpersonal skills to assist leadership and staff members with ongoing course evaluations and program improvements. Mastery of core bookkeeping infrastructure, including debits/credits syntax, payroll tax structures, adjusting entries, asset depreciation, and the specific regulatory guidelines tested on the NACPB Bookkeeping Certification exam. Ability to teach face‑to‑face, hybrid, and online classrooms using remote‑live tools, virtual hands‑on exercise labs, video‑based lessons, and learning management systems (LMS). Skill in evaluating student work via assessments, providing actionable feedback, answering accounting logic inquiries promptly, and motivating active classroom participation. Ability to multi‑task in a busy academic environment and effectively pace lectures and practical financial problems to ensure full classroom testing readiness within an accelerated curriculum window. Physical Demands Position duties are normally performed in a typical work environment based on scheduled activities. Some physical effort required; occasionally lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.
