About This Role
The ideal substitute teacher will create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment for children when the regular teacher is absent. Flexibility, reliability, and compassion are key qualities, allowing the substitute to follow established lesson plans and routines while maintaining a positive and supportive atmosphere. Through meaningful interactions and activities, the substitute teacher will foster the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of each child. Effective communication and professionalism are essential for successful collaboration with staff, children, and families.
We seek a local candidate who can begin work within the month and is available to work through the summer.
What You'll Do- Establish a safe, clean, and nurturing environment for children to thrive.
- Adhere to established lesson plans, daily routines, and classroom expectations, ensuring continuity and stability for children.
- Engage with children in developmentally appropriate activities, promoting their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Maintain effective communication and build positive relationships with staff, children, and parents.
- Ensure adherence to all center policies and state regulations, upholding the highest standards of quality and care.
- Maintain professionalism and embody the values of the school and program, setting a positive example for children and colleagues alike.
- Be prepared to accept substitute assignments on short notice, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- Must remain current with all required trainings by the DHS.
- Proven ability to quickly adapt to new environments and classroom routines.
- Must undergo a comprehensive background check and pass a health screening.
- Must possess Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification, or be capable of obtaining it.
- Must have reliable transportation available.
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience working in a childcare or educational setting.

- Hours of operation are Monday–Friday, 7:30–6:00.
- Closed on major holidays, Fall Break, Christmas Break and Spring Break.
- Paid professional development opportunities.
- Part-time, on-call position. Pick up shifts as you are able!
Located in downtown Knoxville, Church Street United Methodist Church Preschool has
been a distinguished childcare provider for more than 50 years. We are conveniently
situated within walking distance from the University of Tennessee and the World's Fair
Park.
