Medical Assistant II

POSITION SUMMARY This Medical Assistant II functions as a member of the clinical team and completes assigned daily clinical tasks to ensure smooth day-to-day operations in the physician practice. The Medical Assistant II serves as a mentor to other medical assistants and is responsible for training new medical assistants. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES Assist the Practice Manager with scheduling to ensure all providers have an assistant. Train new staff to office workflows and mentor other medical assistants. Own and manage a practice workflow as assigned (e.g., pre-visit planning, workflow dashboard management, charge entry, claim management, clinical inbox management). Room patients and prepare them for the provider visit. Take vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, weight, height, respiratory rate) and enter them accurately into the EMR. Record patient history, chief complaint, pharmacy information, prescription list, etc., into the EMR for the physical exam. Obtain required consents and complete required forms for specific visit types. Perform in-office testing and EKGs as needed; perform controls on certain in-office tests. Assist provider with in-office medical procedures and properly label all specimens. Chaperone providers as required. Administer vaccines and medications as ordered by the provider. Follow Transitional Care Management (TCM), Chronic Care Management (CCM), and Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) workflows when active in the practice. Stock rooms and monitor expiration dates of exam room supplies; monitor and log medication/vaccine refrigerator temperatures. Assist with incoming calls, answering, triaging, and routing telephone calls appropriately. Schedule patient appointments and appropriate testing as ordered by the provider upon check-out or at any requested time. Follow scheduling rules and direct schedules for patient visits in other BMC practices; review pre-visit schedules to ensure the provider has required materials. Perform outreach to selected patient groups for patient care and quality, scheduling specialty appointments and testing as required. Inform manager of clinical supply needs or assist with ordering. Obtain prior authorizations and/or insurance referrals as needed. Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture for laboratory specimen collection and point-of-care testing; properly label and prepare specimens for transport following safety and infection control protocols. Clean, disinfect, and sterilize clinical instruments and equipment in accordance with infection prevention and sterilization standards; maintain documentation as required. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience as a medical assistant, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Completion of an approved medical assistant program. Phlebotomy certification and experience. Medical Assistant certification. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED Not required. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS PREFERRED Certified Medical Assistant certification. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs) Strong customer service skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. COMPENSATION RANGE $17.79–$25.00 per hour. This range is an estimate based on minimum qualifications and is determined by factors such as education, experience, skills, certifications, and market competitiveness.
