OB Acute/Post Partum | RN

L&D Beds: 9 LDR (procedure rooms)

OR Suites on the unit for C-Sections: 2 OR Suites; 1 PACU

Triage beds: 6 L&D triage rooms (in addition, we have an 18 bed antepartum unit)

Postpartum beds: 36 private rooms with an average daily adult census of 18 and infant census of 14

Do you follow AWHONN guidelines for ratios?: 1 to 3

Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?): BLS, NRP

Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Post Partum Moms and Newborn infants

Experience or 'Must have' skills: Required assessments, BLS, NRP, care of the Post-Partum Patient. Preferred ACLS, Lactation education/support experience, Level 2 Nursery experience is a bonus not required.

Are RNs required to titrate drips?: Yes

Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Insulin or Heparin would be the only titratable meds on our unit, for which specific orders would be placed.

Is there a Charge Nurse &/or House Supervisor on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?: Yes, we have a charge RN 24/7; Ideally they would be free of a team assignment, but they do take assignments when necessary. House supervisor 24/7.

Are there nurse aids/surgical techs on this unit? Duties?: We do have PCTs that currently assist primarily with adult patients

OB/Neonatologist in house 24/7?: We have Labor hospitalist in house 24/7, Newborn hospitalists daily in house with NICU coverage at night in house for emergencies.

RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, Bipap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot?: Only home Cpap or Bipap if the pt. has this. We have Respiratory available to assist with set up or questions for the pt.

Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?: We do utilize house wide telemetry units, that are monitored by Tele Techs off unit. The nurses are not required to read & interpret strips. Phillips monitors.

EFM System: Epic

Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?): 12 hr shifts, shift as assigned, would consider block scheduling as able, and do self-scheduling in 6 wk. time periods.

Weekend Requirements: Every 3rd weekend, Nights: Fri/Sat, Days: Sat/Sun

Holiday Requirements: Every other Holiday

Is there a call or standby requirement?: No, we do not require call at this time

Floating Requirements: Would float to within the Family Birthing center and to Behavior Health needs. Similar to our staff. Our travelers would float to Women's care unit (AP & Women's surgeries) & L&D (where they would assist in recoveries, help all, maybe sitter patients if AWHONN monitor trained).

Scrub Color/Dress code: Any professional looking scrubs are fine.
