Bread for the World is a Christian advocacy organization urging U.S. decision makers to do all they can to pursue a world without hunger. Our mission is to educate and equip people to advocate for policies and programs that can help end hunger in the U.S. and around the world. The Karen Sue Smith and Rose DiMartino Internship Program enables you to contribute your efforts to this mission while benefiting from opportunities for supervised learning, personal development, and gain work experience.

REPORTS TO: Events Manager, Deputy Director of Philanthropy and Donor Services Manager
SEMESTER: Fall (Sept.- Dec. 2026)
SCHEDULE: Part-Time: up to 22.5 hours per week

PRIMARY PURPOSE: As the Events & Philanthropy Intern you will support Bread for the World’s events and fundraising efforts, with approximately two-thirds of their time dedicated to Events and one-third to Philanthropy. This role offers hands-on experience in event planning, project management, nonprofit fundraising, and donor engagement.
- Assist with event logistics and planning.
- Coordinate with vendors.
- Prepare digital communications.
- Provide customer service support and general administrative tasks.
- Assist with donor, fundraising, stewardship, and portfolio management, including tracking interactions, follow-up needs, and donor engagement activities.
- Support major gifts, church giving and planned giving projects, including donor communications, stewardship campaigns, record reviews, and event support.
- Participate in department meetings.
- Work on additional projects as requested.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Pursuing a BA or BS degree in hospitality, tourism, marketing, business administration, or non-profit management
- Interest in nonprofit management, event management, project management, fundraising, or a related field.
- Interest in Bread for the World's mission to end hunger through advocacy and public policy.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential donor information with professionalism and discretion.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
- Familiarity with MS Word, CRM databases, Excel, Canva, PowerPoint, Event/project software like Cvent, Asana is a plus.
- Willingness to learn.
- Commitment to the mission of Bread for the World.
