Job Title

Under general supervision, assists student(s) with medical needs. In addition, will assist classroom teachers and Special Education staff with a wide variety of services for special needs and handicapped students; perform training and instructional duties involving immediate contact and close supervision of pupils; may perform clerical duties of average difficulty; perform related duties as required.

Requirements / Qualifications

Experience: Preferable experience with persons with exceptional physical and educational needs within a school setting. Minimum of one-year nursing experience in acute care environment is desirable. Education: Must obtain and maintain current CPR training through American Heart Association or American Red Cross, and a standard first aid course through the American Red Cross certification. Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade, supplemented with advanced first aid and CPR certification. Required to complete and maintain California Licensed Vocational or Registered Nursing licensure. Knowledge of: Problems related to the needs of physically and mentally challenged persons, safety precautions and procedures for working with handicapped students. Ability to: Understand the needs of pupils and possess a genuine liking for special students; communicate with pupils and motivate them to participate in learning activities; learn to teach in special subject matter areas or to teach students who have special learning needs by watching teaching or specialists. Develop and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students and adults; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; supervise pupils in the classroom and on campus. Perform general clerical work and use correct English, spelling and punctuation. Understand and follow oral and written directions and give direct instructions to students. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
