A plaintiff (or litigation) paralegal supports attorneys through all phases of civil litigation. Key duties include conducting initial case investigations, drafting pleadings and discovery, summarizing medical and legal records, coordinating with courts and medical providers, and assisting with trial preparation. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] Core Responsibilities • Case Management: Maintain, organize, and retrieve case files, as well as manage attorney calendars, deadlines, and hearing schedules. [1, 2] • Document Preparation: Draft and edit routine legal documents such as complaints, motions, affidavits, and interrogatories. [1, 2] • Discovery & Investigation: Conduct factual and legal research, review and summarize medical records, and compile responses for discovery requests. [1, 2, 3] • Liaison & Coordination: Act as the primary point of contact between trial teams, clients, opposing counsel, medical providers, and court personnel. [1, 2] • Trial Preparation: Assist in the organization of trial exhibits, manage witness lists, coordinate logistics, and occasionally attend trials or depositions. [1, 2] Typical Qualifications • Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant litigation or personal injury experience. • Education: A bachelor's degree and/or a formal paralegal certificate are strongly preferred. • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required, along with strong legal research abilities (e.g., LexisNexis) and excellent organizational skills.
