Database Administrator

Database Administrator is needed to perform the following duties: Design, develop and implement comprehensive database back‑up and recovery plans and disaster recovery strategies under close guidance of our IT Manager – this includes designing/developing/implementing stored procedures, functions, views to enter/store in our Project Management System (PMS) database for its back‑ups/replication, routinely monitoring/supporting database recovery testing to ensure smooth disaster recovery, configuring/implementing security protocols to maintain database integrity etc. Regularly monitor and optimize server and SQL server environments across entire system as instructed by our IT manager – includes monitoring our databases to assess how servers are performing, tracking current performance to isolate processes that are causing technical errors, gathering technical data continuously over time to track performance trends and to do integrity testing etc. Performance‑tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability – will work with our IT team under close guidance of our IT Manager to address bug fixes, perform code reviews, refactor inefficient SQL code, denormalize data stores etc. Maintain security and integrity controls as instructed – will perform regular tests & evaluations to ensure data security, privacy and integrity, implement protocols that prevent unauthorized database access and fulfill SOX compliance for the database environment. Assist in technology transfer functions including database refresh from production back‑up to stage & development environments – will follow Manager’s instructions/guidance to assist in designing/implementing Data Model of entire PMS using CIMpgr/ERWIN, administer design model changes/edits as requested by different departments before conducting database design modifications, coordinate with front‑end developers to help convert database design models to actual pages/create code feasibility without compromising database integrity/security. Assist in formulating procedures and standards relating to database management – follow manager’s guidance to formulate/automate alerts using stored code when data integrity fails, design event‑logging mechanisms based on data edits, update/design triggers as instructed anytime there is unauthorized access to change data & to prepare/send technical reports to administrator. Develop technical reports by monitoring database transaction activity and utilization for manager’s review. Administer SQL server user accounts, roles and permissions as instructed – includes creating user access within prescribed limits, granting restricted PMS access as per specifications, ensuring that specified database access is not breached, enabling data distribution in appropriate format to the right user etc. Analyze data utilization trends under close guidance and develop regular reports for manager’s review and approval – includes analyzing database performance by performing tests/evaluations regularly, applying new patches/versions, performing denormalization, ensuring minimal database downtime – will prepare technical reports on database utilization trends for manager’s review so as to develop recommendations for enhancements/ better disaster recovery plans & to implement SQL server best practices. Approximately 85% of the time will be spent in analyzing, administering & performance‑tuning petitioner’s database management systems and server environments – all under the close guidance of our IT Manager.
