Job Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties related to specimen collection and handling, as well as troubleshooting, training, and workflow optimization. The position involves working with diabetic patients ranging from 16 years old to geriatric age, requiring excellent customer service skills and the ability to manage up to 35 patients per day.
Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.
• Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment as needed.
• Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperatures.
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately label them.
• Follow procedures outlined by specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department training sessions.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Possession of a High School Diploma or GED.

Work Environment
The work environment is fast-paced, typically within a lab or hospital setting. Phlebotomists will be required to adhere to safety protocols and regulations, including OSHA and DEP standards. The role demands excellent customer service skills and the ability to handle multiple patients per day efficiently. Dress code and proper attire are expected to maintain professionalism and comply with facility standards.
Monday through Friday. 8amto 5pm or 8:30am to 5:30pm

This is a Contract position based out of Wichita, KS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
