Cardiac Sonographer

Provides cardiac ultrasound in one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers. Serves a diverse group of inpatients and outpatients on a dynamic team dedicated to continuing education, professional growth, and high‑quality patient care. Employs radiologic sciences technology to perform a variety of patient‑care, technical, and diagnostic tasks targeted to the care of patients with cardiovascular disease. Major tasks include ultrasound imaging, patient preparation and post‑procedure care, procedure‑room set‑up and cleaning, and quality monitoring. Days: M‑F and weekend rotation (typically 1 every 3 months) Hours: candidate choice of either of the below Five 8‑hour shifts/week: 7:30 – 4 pm Four 10‑hour shifts/week: 7:30 – 6 pm Responsibilities Performs cardiac ultrasound evaluations Attends weekly department educational conferences Communicates urgent exam findings to Cardiologist and routes studies for interpretation Obtains pertinent patient health history prior to examination Prepares procedure room and maintains equipment Identifies and reports any equipment issues May be asked to help teach students, fellow cardiologists, and co‑workers Demonstrates competence in delivering pre‑procedure and post‑procedure patient care, including patient assessment pre‑ and post‑procedure, emergency cardiac care (CPR is required), and assistance with post‑procedure transport. Ensures equipment is calibrated and properly maintained daily; performs and records all equipment maintenance and quality assurance monitoring, troubleshoots and identifies any equipment problems, and reports to the appropriate supervisor. Generates ultrasound images of the heart and/or vascular‑related structures. May perform staff training and education. Monitors and records patient information, maintains report storage and data systems, compiles and enters data necessary for charge entry, and prepares reports. Also responsible for retrieval of stored information and reports from the automated storage system. Prepares procedure room and equipment for daily use and is responsible for timely and efficient room preparation between procedures. Other Information Education Requirements Associate's degree in Sonography, Radiology or a related field within 3 months of hire, OR Completion of a twelve (12) month ultrasound program within 3 months of hire. Licensure/Certification Requirements Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or registry‑eligible and become registered within one (1) year from date of hire. Must maintain registry status and continuing education requirements annually. Professional Experience Requirements No prior experience required.
