Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology - Physician

Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute is seeking an Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiologist in the Greater Charlotte Market.

Carolinas Medical Center (CMC ) is Atrium Health’s flagship academic medical center in Charlotte and the quaternary referral hub for Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute. CMC is an 874‑bed tertiary and quaternary care hospital providing the highest level of heart and vascular care across the Carolinas and serving as the destination for complex, high‑acuity cardiovascular patients. A major new 12‑story advanced care facility is scheduled to open in spring 2027. This flagship project, which broke ground in July 2023, will feature 448 patient rooms, 38 operating rooms, 16 procedure rooms, and a new emergency department. CMC is the region’s only Level I Trauma Center and is a transplant center for heart, kidney, pancreas, and liver.

CMC is one of North Carolina’s five Academic Medical Center teaching hospitals, providing residency training for more than 200 physicians across 15 specialties, and serves as a regional campus for Wake Forest University School of Medicine, based in Winston‑Salem, North Carolina.

Heart and vascular services at CMC include comprehensive electrophysiology, advanced heart failure, interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, and mechanical circulatory support. The hospital is home to the region’s only heart transplant program and pediatric heart surgery program, making it a critical site for complex adult and congenital cardiac care.

Atrium Health Cabarrus is a 457‑bed tertiary care hospital and the second largest in the Greater Charlotte market, serving a rapidly growing and diverse patient population. The hospital is part of Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, one of the largest and most comprehensive cardiovascular programs in the Southeast, and is anchored by a state‑of‑the‑art Heart & Vascular Tower designed for integrated, patient‑centered care.

The cardiovascular program at Cabarrus offers a full spectrum of services including advanced non‑invasive and structural imaging, structural and interventional cardiology, comprehensive electrophysiology services, and advanced heart failure care. Physicians practice in a highly collaborative, team‑based environment alongside 17 cardiologists, 4 cardiac surgeons, a dedicated 6‑physician vascular surgery team, and robust support from more than 21 cardiology‑focused advanced practice providers.

• Service Schedule
  Approximately 25-40 inpatients per day on average

Outpatient Clinic

• Approximately 12 patients per day on average

Procedures

• Optional: right heart catheterizations and RV biopsies

Call & Weekend Coverage

• Weekend coverage averages approximately 9 weekends per year, or about Q6, for primary transplant service.
• In‑house advanced practice provider coverage is available 24/7, significantly limiting overnight call burden.

• BE/BC in Cardiovascular Disease
• BE/BC in Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant
• BE/BC Echo and Nuclear (if applicable)
• Interest in critical care is welcomed
