Join our team and help craft the documents customers receive from State Farm!We're seeking a Software Engineer or a Lead Software Engineer for our batch Design & Development and On-Demand Composition Modernization teams within the Customer Communications product suite. You'll collaborate with business, infrastructure, and application teams to design, develop, test, and support batch and on-demand applications using the OpenText Exstream composition toolset. Our team creates high-volume, customer-facing communications such as policy documents, renewal notices, billing statements, claim correspondence, and important notices—delivered by mail or online—while maintaining design and development standards to ensure quality.This role supports the modernization of our communication tools, including adoption of cloud technologies. You'll have meaningful opportunities to improve customer interactions across insurance and financial services products.If you value quality, teamwork, and making an impact, we'd love to hear from you!QualificationsRequired SkillsThese skills are essential for day-to-day success in this role:Prior software engineering and programming experienceExperience with composition software, preferably OpenText Exstream or similar tools, including shared components and content import functionalityFamiliarity with data dictionaries and Exstream driver filesExperience with code repositories, shared forms, version control, and deployment of package files to testing and production environmentsUnderstand the concept of APIs and JSON payload schemasUnderstanding of API testing tools such as Postman or InsomniaUnderstanding of or experience with different output formats (e.g., AFP, PDF)Strong knowledge of data structures (e.g., XSD, XML, JSON) and data merge techniquesAbility to assess impacts on upstream and downstream processes, including troubleshootingAwareness of coding standards for accessibility complianceDesired SkillsThese skills are a plus and will help you excel and grow in the position:Understanding of Customer Communication Management (CCM) practicesUnderstanding of unit testing concepts and frameworksObject-oriented programming experience; JavaScript or Python skillsExperience with additional OpenText Exstream tools (e.g., Communications Designer, Content Author, Empower)Experience with agile development methodologiesOur BenefitsBecause work-life balance is a priority at State Farm, compensation is based on our standard 38:45-hour work week!Potential starting salary range: $100,000 - $140,000Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experienceHigh end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experiencePotential yearly incentive pay up to 15% of base salaryAt State Farm, we offer more than just a paycheck.
