Senior Property Accountant

A growing real estate organization is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to support a portfolio of residential real estate assets. This position will be responsible for financial reporting, month-end close activities, general ledger accounting, cash management, financial analysis, budgeting support, and variance reporting.

The Senior Property Accountant will partner closely with operations, asset management, and finance leadership to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting while supporting strategic business decisions.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day accounting activities for assigned properties.
• Review and reconcile cash accounts and prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
• Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable activity.
• Prepare and record journal entries.
• Analyze general ledger activity and investigate variances.
• Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Prepare supporting schedules for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Assist with cash flow forecasting and liquidity analysis.
• Support budgeting and forecasting initiatives.
• Analyze monthly and year-end budget-to-actual variances.
• Prepare financial reporting packages for management review.
• Assist with audit requests and year-end reporting requirements.
• Collaborate with property management, asset management, and finance teams.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3+ years of property accounting or real estate accounting experience.
• Experience supporting residential, multifamily, commercial, or mixed-use real estate portfolios preferred.
• CPA or CPA-track preferred.
• Experience with Yardi, RealPage, JD Edwards, MRI, or similar accounting/property management software preferred.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
• Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
