Job Title: Data Center Crew Lead / Low Voltage Technician Job Description

The Data Center Crew Lead is a hands-on low voltage technician role responsible for supervising, training, and working alongside a team of technicians performing structured cabling and security system installations in data center environments. This position serves as the primary field leader, ensuring all projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in full alignment with customer specifications, while actively participating in daily installation, testing, and troubleshooting activities.

Responsibilities

• Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of technicians performing structured cabling and security system installations in data center environments.

• Work directly in the field installing, terminating, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning copper and fiber optic cabling, access control systems, and CCTV systems.

• Train and develop technicians on installation methods, industry standards, safety practices, and proper tool and equipment usage.

• Maintain productivity and quality standards, ensuring all work adheres to project drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.

• Read and interpret blueprints, cable schedules, rack elevations, and low-voltage system drawings to plan and execute installation work.

• Perform and verify cable testing, certification, and documentation for copper and fiber optic infrastructure.

• Oversee security device installation, including card readers, door contacts, cameras, access control panels, and associated low-voltage cabling.

• Coordinate daily work plans, material requirements, and manpower assignments to meet project timelines and milestones.

• Serve as the primary point of contact between field crews, project managers, and customer representatives, communicating status, issues, and solutions clearly.

• Conduct job site safety meetings, enforce safety procedures, and maintain compliance with site policies and OSHA requirements.

• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve field issues while providing technical guidance and support to crew members.

• Ensure accurate documentation of installations, test results, and changes to project scope or design as work progresses.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in structured cabling, low-voltage systems, security installations, or data center environments.

• Proven experience leading installation crews while remaining actively involved in hands-on field work.

• Strong knowledge of copper cabling, including CAT5 and CAT6, and fiber optic cabling, along with related testing and troubleshooting practices.

• Experience installing, terminating, and supporting access control systems and CCTV systems.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, cable schedules, rack elevations, and low-voltage system drawings.

• Demonstrated ability to perform terminations, pulling wire, and low voltage wiring in a variety of environments.

• Proficiency in troubleshooting low voltage and electrical-related issues within structured cabling and security systems.

• Ability to coach, teach, and develop technicians with varying skill levels.

• Strong focus on safety, with the ability to enforce safety procedures and maintain compliance with OSHA and site-specific requirements.

• Effective communication skills for coordinating with technicians, project managers, and customer representatives.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Hands-on experience working with data center infrastructure and environments.

• Experience with installation and commissioning of access control panels, card readers, door contacts, and cameras.

• Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for structured cabling and low-voltage installations.

• Ability to organize daily work plans and manage materials and resources to support project schedules.

• Comfort working with various low voltage systems, including security systems and related devices.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve field issues quickly and effectively.

• Capability to maintain detailed documentation of testing, certifications, and installation work.

Work Environment

This role is based in data center environments where you will work directly on structured cabling and low-voltage security systems. The work involves on-site field activities such as pulling wire, performing terminations, installing copper and fiber optic cabling, and setting up access control and CCTV devices. You will regularly use tools and test equipment for cable testing, certification, and troubleshooting. The schedule is driven by project timelines and may require flexibility to meet installation and commissioning milestones. Safety standards and OSHA requirements are strictly followed, with routine job site safety meetings and adherence to site-specific procedures.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lebanon, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
