Occupational Therapist Ot-Tr, Full Time, First Shift, Psychiatry
UC Health is hiring a full time occupational therapist for the first shift at UC Medical Center. The occupational therapist will evaluate, plan, and implement occupational therapy treatment programs for referred patients. Follow hospital and department approved policies related to documentation, attendance, education, etc. Show respect and courtesy to all staff, patients, and visitors.

Responsibilities
The occupational therapist will engage in population appropriate communication, have knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks, give clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, involve family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient, identify any physical limitations of the patient and deploy intervention when necessary, recognize and respond appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems, interpret population related data and plans care appropriately, identify and respond appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely, recognize and respond to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect, understand the needs of specialty populations served within psychiatry services, utilize sensory, trauma-informed care, and crisis intervention approaches.
The occupational therapist will select appropriate therapeutic assessment tools, upon referral completes a functional comprehensive individualized assessment, develop individualized treatment programs consistent with patient's diagnosis, status, and goals, establish goals/plans of care that include realistic and measurable goals in relation to the patients' goals, diagnosis, prognosis, learning ability of patient/caregiver, physical/mental status and anticipated lifestyle, complete evaluations according to departmental policy, evaluate for, recommend/procure needed patient equipment and follow-up, administer/interpret/communicate results of standardized assessments to assist with disposition planning, make recommendations for discharge, including appropriate community referrals.
The occupational therapist will implement the treatment plan in collaboration with the treatment team, reassess objective findings, including pain, per department policy, deliver care in a professional and customer-oriented manner, adhere to department safety standards, develop appropriate treatment programs to progress toward goals and progresses programs appropriately, counsel patients and families regarding evaluation results, treatment plans/goals, proper body mechanics, and home exercises, utilize updated treatment techniques, serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, identify patients appropriate for therapy interventions based on functional status, develop/lead/co-lead therapeutic groups and individual treatment sessions, monitor patient responses to therapy interventions and modify plans accordingly, aides in mitigating risk and de-escalating crisis situations through non-restrictive interventions, maintain personal safety, utilizing situational awareness and disengagement principles as per department policy, assist in managing safety in the milieu, including participation in restrictive holding principles, seclusion, and or/restraint as per department policy.
The occupational therapist will adhere to hospital/department policies, documentation completed in a timely manner, comply with all pertinent regulatory standards, submit accurate and timely completion of charges.
The occupational therapist will participate in department's performance improvement programs, participate on performance improvement committees as assigned, able to articulate outcomes and improvements, participate in educational in-services/opportunities to advance clinical knowledge/competencies, provide timely presentation of materials to associates, complete mandatory education per hospital/department requirements, active participation in mentoring and orientation to fellow associates and students, as indicated.
The occupational therapist will accept at least one student per year according to departmental needs and demand, provide appropriate leadership and supervision of supportive /assistive staff, adheres to the UC Health initiatives, demonstrates time management skills, meets productivity standards and makes productive use of work time, attends department meetings/in-services and demonstrates professional behavior, participates on committees for the benefit of the department and individual offices as found appropriate, maintains a safe and clean environment, uses hospital information services appropriately, follows UC Health and Human Resource policies, maintains adequate inventory of supplies, promotes a positive atmosphere.
These specific patient populations are served by this position: young adults, adults, and older adults with psychiatric disorders and conditions involving mood, thought, neurocognitive, intellectual/developmental, substance use, and women's health issues.
